There are almost always some discrepancies when adapting source materials like books or video games into movies and TV shows. Each storytelling method has its own strengths and weaknesses that make translating across mediums a challenge. In the case of Game of Thrones, series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss ran out of source material at the end of the fifth season because George R.R. Martin hadn’t (and still hasn’t) finished his next novel The Winds of Winter....

Starlink: Battle for Atlas, a toys-to-life game focusing on space combat, was first announced at Ubisoft’s E3 2017 press conference. Not much has been said about the game since its initial reveal, but Ubisoft brought it back at this year’s event with a bombshell: Star Fox’s Fox McCloud and his Arwing spacecraft will be available in the game, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch version. This bombshell was revealed in a new trailer for Starlink: Battle for Atlas, which also showed off some cinematic space combat....

If you’re anything like me, you’re counting down the days until Star Trek: Discovery returns from its midseason hiatus in January. Luckily, the holiday weeks aren’t completely devoid of new Discovery material to, um, discover. IDW just published “The Light of Kahless,” the first in a four-part Discovery comic book tie-in series set before the events of the series. The story follows the character of T’Kuvma, the Klingon leader set on uniting the houses of the crumbling empire in the TV show’s two-part premiere....

Republic Commando might be heading to the Nintendo Switch. According to Nintendo eShop dataminer NWPlayer123, Aspyr Media just uploaded game files for the 16-year-old game to Nintendo’s backend. You might remember Aspyr Media as the same folks who ported Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer to the Switch along with the old Jedi Knight games. They did a good job, all things considered, and now it looks like they’re about to lend their talent to another classic Star Wars title....

There’s no weapon in science fiction or pop-culture that is quite as significant as the lightsaber from Star Wars. With Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order due to release this November, EA released a full gameplay demo during E3 2019 offering a first look at the game that left some fans unhappy with the design of the legendary Jedi weapon. In an interview with Game Informer, Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order game director Stig Asmussen addressed criticism from fans that felt the design of the main protagonist’s lightsaber lacked the vibrancy Star Wars fans have come to expect from not only the film series but games like 2017’s Star Wars Battlefront 2....

At a surprise DC Fandome panel, Milestone comics co-founder Denys Cowan announced that beloved 90s/2000s-era character Static Shock will be getting a new digital comic series in February of 2021 as part of a revival of 1993’s Milestone Media, under DC. Cowan made the announcement alongside DC Entertainment’s Co-Publisher Jim Lee, producer/director Reginald Hudlin, and Phil Lamarr, voice of Static Shock from the animated series. They announced the creation of “Earth-M,” which will be home to the “Dakota” universe of characters from Milestone and a slew of new characters....

The first reveal for the cast of the Minecraft movie looks to be close, as Steve Carell is reportedly in talks to join the film adaptation of the popular title. Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town features an array of unique bachelors and bachelorettes, each with their own likes and dislikes that the player must discover if they want to get married. Unlike past games in the series like in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town where the players can marry the Harvest Goddess, Pioneers of Olive Town doesn’t have any secret marriage candidates with special requirements. It does, however, allow for same-sex relationships, which can’t be said for its competitor, Harvest Moon: One World....

There are many different ways to play video games and give oneself wacky challenges or stipulations in order to make the experience more unique or difficult. Such happens to be the recent case with Super Louis 64, a streamer who was able to beat Dark Souls 3 by using a bunch of bananas as controllers....

The EVO 2019 fighting game tournament is set to begin on August 2 and run through Aug 4, with the tourney showcasing some of the biggest fighting games out there, like Super Smash Bros., Mortal Kombat 11, and Street Fighter 5. EVO is changing it up this year, though, as the featured card and final bout focuses on Smash Bros. instead of Street Fighter 5, but that’s not to say there weren’t some planned surprises for the latter....

Bandai Namco will be releasing Super Robot Wars V and X for Nintendo Switch and Steam as part of a series revival. The announcement, made via the official Super Robot Wars Twitter page, states that Switch ports will launch for the games later this year. And, while the reveal was sparse, simply outlining the very basic as it relates to ports and titles, a short detail from the Famitsu magazine which featured in July was also noted....

Super Smash Bros Ultimate modder Demonslayerx8 is implementing 2B and 9S from Nier Automata into the crossover fighting game by altering Pyra & Mythra. The duo replaces Pyra (or Mythra) and Rex, who are the latest characters to join the battle in Smash as DLC. Unfortunately, Rex only made it as part of a taunt, so Nines will appear in this fashion as well. No release date has been given for their release yet, but Demonslayerx8 has just unveiled Fire Emblem Warriors’ Lianna to the fight last week....

Popular anime franchise Sword Art Online is collaborating with Japanese social media app Cluster to hose a series of virtual reality meetups this week to promote the currently airing Alicization: War of the Underworld season. Sword Art Online tells the story of protagonist Kazuto “Kirito” Kirigaya as he finds himself trapped in a series of various VRMMORPG worlds, making a virtual reality meetup a perfect way to promote the show. Especially given concerns over the coronavirus pandemic and enforced social distancing measures, these virtual meetings sound like a safe, yet fitting, way for fans to engage with the franchise....

Earlier this year, the South by Southwest festival (SXSW) was canceled due to health concerns from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. However, the organizers behind the event have announced that SXSW will return as a new digital experience in 2021. SXSW was one of many physical conventions, festivals, and other gatherings like TwitchCon to be canceled or delayed due to the pandemic. The festival is normally held in the city of Austin, Texas opening a space where creatives in different fields can meet, network and share their work....
