The Expanse has officially set course toward a bittersweet threshold crossed by many-a-beloved shows: an advance renewal for its final season. Based on the literary franchise of James S.A. Corey (the collaborative nome de plume of authors Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck), The Expanse, a production of Alcon Entertainment, first took shape back in December 2015 as a broadcast offering for Syfy, set in a vision of a far-future (roughly in the early 2300s,) in which humanity has widely colonized the solar system, leaving the fate-joined antihero crew of liberated gunship the Rocinante forced to navigate familiar social, political and military dynamics, just on a galactic scale between Earth, Mars and the Asteroid Belt....

In 2016, Naughty Dog added Westworld writer Halley Gross to The Last of Us Part 2 team. The Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set during the Second Age of Arda in the fictional world created by J.R.R. Tolkien. With the production of Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars game being recently announced, there’s a lot to ask of what they’re going to do with the franchise. This studio is plenty known for its open-world formula with series like Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs, but a series known for planet-hopping makes people wonder how well they’ll stick to a singular map. Star Wars: Squadrons made a strong first impression this week with its first action-packed gameplay trailer, which showed off the wide variety of ways players will be able to dogfight in their own X-Wing or TIE Fighter. But in news that may disappoint some (or excite, depending on who’s being asked), it’s been confirmed that the game will be locked to a first-person perspective. Star Wars Armada has just exited hyperspace with a new wave of Clone Wars releases to satisfy our prequel trilogy space battle dreams. Star Wars Armada is the second of Fantasy Flight Games tabletop space battle Star Wars titles. Unlike X-Wing, Armada has not seen an as regular release schedule which has left players of the capital class ship combat game feeling hate and fear. This new release will hopefully restore some of the lost confidence felt by fans of the franchise and hopefully be more attainable than the previous, yet admittedly gorgeous, Super Star Destroyer....

Electronic Arts’ Star Wars Battlefront II has been out for around a year and a half at this point, and while public perception of the game was nothing short of abysmal when it first launched, the folks over at DICE have been steadily introducing new content to satiate loyal fans of the franchise. A new farm option was added in with the 1.5 update in Stardew Valley that allows players a unique experience. With the novel coronavirus now being considered a pandemic, more and more people are being sent to work or study from home. While it has been assumed that a lof of these self-isolated and quarantined individuals will be playing video games to pass the time, tangible evidence of this isn’t common. A recent study conducted by the Department of Psychology at Ohio State University looked to further research the possible link between violent video games and real world aggression. For this study, researchers paired off 220 kids, aged eight to 12, and assigned them to one of three versions of Minecraft. Some kids were assigned to a version of Minecraft with no violence, another with sword violence, and another with gun violence....

Sunday, February 7 was this year’s Super Bowl, one of the biggest television nights of the year- especially for advertisers. Though this year’s looked a little different to Super Bowls seen in the past, there were still a good amount of new high profile commercials as well as five new movie trailers. While 2020, and possibly 2021, has been a bit of a lackluster year for film, new trailers are always exciting for film buffs and some new looks at very highly anticipated films came out last night....

While everyone was distracted by the news that Idris Elba is going to play Knuckles in the next Sonic the Hedgehog movie, comedian Sebastian Maniscalco seemingly confirmed that he will be playing Foreman Spike in the upcoming animated Super Mario movie that we still don’t know a lot about. Yes, we’re talking about the Foreman Spike: the legendary Super Mario character that many of us practically grew up with. We’re talking about “The Icon” Foreman Spike who…umm…well....

For those planning on saving some money this year by partaking in Black Friday sales, the retail giant Target has some great deals advertised for both consoles and individual games. It’s worth mentioning that Black Friday occurs on November 23 this year, so those interested should mark their calendars and look out for deals including everything from the Nintendo Switch to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Furthermore, the advertisement states that doors will open at 5PM on Thanksgiving, close at 1AM, and re-open at 7AM, though not all deals will be available to the public until the store re-opens that Friday morning....

Video games tend to be mindless fun for many players out there, but there are some that take some serious decision-making as players navigate their stories. Strategy games are the best example of this as figuring out how to best deal with a problem in the game is crucial to the outcome. On the Nintendo Switch, strategy games are in abundance in the hybrid console’s library.
