Tencent has earned something of a reputation for investing in video game companies, steadily purchasing bits and pieces of Riot Games, Epic Games, and a number of other big-name video game companies. While that hasn’t always been a popular move from a consumer side, it looks like that isn’t slowing Tencent down, as the company has now acquired a minority stake in Arma developer Bohemia Interactive. Bohemia Interactive revealed the information in a press release, reassuring fans that it would continue to “operate independently” from Tencent....

My lifelong quest to find ultimate video game immersion began in 1995 on the day that I plugged a joystick into my dad’s DOS computer to play Star Wars: Rebel Assault 2. Since then, I’ve endeavoured to find every device, peripheral, or piece of hardware that can help me achieve my Ready Player One dream. Modern virtual reality headsets like the Oculus Quest 2 have closed the gap significantly, but of course, VR headsets are still quite limited in the experiences they can offer....

There are Pokémon throughout the franchise that are very strange and have little logic involved with them. Alola saw an influx of these creatures since it was based around the tropical islands of Hawaii, and as such, there were many new Pokémon introduced that had weird concepts such as Palossand and Comfey. Regardless of how fans feel about Alola as a region, there’s no denying that it had some of the weirdest creatures in the franchise and that this generation added more strangeness to the series....

Over the years, we’ve seen some truly standout video games with some absolutely incredible levels, missions, and stages (or however games choose to cut up their content). Arguably the most important of these levels are the final ones, the ones at the end of the game that test your mettle and skill in the ultimate trial. Warner Bros. is looking to restart production for The Matrix 4 in early July after production was halted in March due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in Germany. The studio has signed the cast to eight-week contract extensions and plans to resume filming by July 6. The fourth installment in the wildly successful series is once again being helmed by Lana Wachowski and is tentatively scheduled for release in 2021. An exact date for the film has not been announced yet and it is still unknown what effect if any that the current health crisis will have on the release....

The return to Chernobyl is imminent as GSC Game World has given its fanbase a progress update on Stalker’s sequel. The developer also provided a teaser trailer, as well as other key pieces of information regarding Stalker 2’s narrative. The follow up to the successful 2007 FPS survival horror has been a highly anticipated and long-awaited one at that. Set to launch some time this year for PC and Xbox Series X/S, the sequel’s release will also commemorate the franchise’s debut on consoles....

While Star Trek: Picard continues the character-driven story begun in Star Trek: The Next Generation, the first season of the Trek series had a very different premise than its predecessor. While TNG, like most “classic” Trek series, is a problem-of-the-week workplace drama, Picard leans into the serialized format that is much more common in modern TV storytelling. Because of this, it bops from place to place and, while spaceship La Sirena is arguably the show’s main setting, it is an unregistered speed freighter—not the Starfleet flagship we are used to seeing Picard on in TNG....

On December 10th, amidst a swarm of Star Wars announcements during Disney’s 2020 investor call presentation, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced Star Wars: The Acolyte, an upcoming series exclusive to the Disney+ streaming service and the first screen project set in the “High Republic,” a brand-new Star Wars multimedia project launching in January 2021. “The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller set in a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging Dark Side powers in the final days of the High Republic era,” Kennedy described during the presentation....

After successfully becoming fully-funded on Kickstarter last year, Stardew Valley-inspired open-world pirate RPG, Seablip, has finally been added to Steam with a planned release date of February 2022. Developed by sole-developer Jardar Solli, Seablip will put players at the helm of a small ship inherited from their parents. It will then be up to players to restore the island of Seablip to its former glory by sailing the high seas in search of treasure and adventure while uncovering the mystery of the in-game world....

The last major update to hit Stardew Valley came in November 2019, which added new content like fish ponds, end game marriage events, and a new starting map perfect for four-player multiplayer games. And the next update will continue Stardew’s foray into multiplayer by letting people play together side-by-side on the couch. Yes, Stardew is getting split-screen co-op multiplayer. Stardew creator ConcernedApe (aka Eric Barone) tweeted out the news on Friday, along with a follow-up tweet that revealed not everyone will enjoy a quartered screen....

As part of its ongoing series, Cyberpunk in Numbers, the developers revealed another brief piece of information about players’ preferences in the dark future world of Cyberpunk 2077. This time we learned that more players have opted for the Street Kid lifepath than any other available in the ambitious RPG....

One of the best brawler franchises in history is back with Streets of Rage 4, bringing with it a healthy dose of nostalgia.
