With technology, artistry, and industry trends changing on a nearly monthly basis, each new year in video games proves that it’s nothing if not a fluid medium. Overblown controversies, divisive marketing strategies, worthwhile conversations, and extreme highs and lows are par for the course. 2014 was no different, but there’s no denying that several things failed to turn out the way we here at Game Rant hoped they would. It’s important to note that our choices for the most underwhelming, distressing, or simply off-the-mark are far from the only candidates....

Independent video game studio DDreams Games recently cast its spellbinding point-and-click adventure game The Button Witch onto Steam for a full launch. The game is currently available at a special promotional discount of 33% to $10.04, scheduled to run until January 3. The teaser trailer for long-awaited Skyrim sequel The Elder Scrolls 6 was released back in 2018, and since then Bethesda has been notably quiet on the game’s development. Despite confirmation that the game is in progress, no details have been released regarding its setting or story. There’s one major element of the Elder Scrolls lore that’s rarely been touched upon in the games themselves, which could be interesting to see here....

Yesterday saw the stealth launch of three classic DOOM games on the Nintendo Switch, much to the appreciation of fans everywhere, as part of QuakeCon. DOOM, DOOM 2, and DOOM 3 are all available on the eShop right now at great prices, and all three work well on the Switch. For many players, this writer included, seeing DOOM 3 run so smoothly on the relatively low-powered hardware of the Switch is an impressive achievement, and brings back memories of the first launch of the game back in August of 2004....

For now, the Marvel spotlight remains focused on WandaVision. However, come March, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will have some pretty large shoes to fill in place of the MCU’s most charming couple. That’s not to say The Falcon and the Winter Soldier lacks its own appeal, as the miniseries should unveil whether it’ll be Sam Wilson or Bucky Barnes who takes over as Captain America for phase four of the MCU now that Chris Evans has pretty much retired from the role....

There’s a certain excitement that comes with seeing a new anime intro. Maybe it reveals the entire plot in one intricately crafted sequence, or maybe it puts painstaking detail into portraying events that never happen in the show itself. Well, in preparation for the upcoming release of its Dragon’s Dogma anime, Netflix just revealed the opening credits animation for the series and… yep, it’s definitely a Netflix show. Posted on Netflix’s YouTube channel, the CG animation features a multitude of crusty ashen figures in various poses and in various states of decay....

With The Last of Us Part 2 finally out, players are ready to push through the sequel to Naughty Dog’s most depressing story to date, also being the most successful release on PS4 until now as well. However, while the overall message of the game is a powerful note on the nature of choices and consequences, as well as the importance of perspective into both sides of any conflict, the delivery can be heavy-handed at times....

With multiple timelines, a seemingly unlimited amount of games, and the main characters of The Legend Of Zelda being reincarnated into various versions of Hyrule, the character designs also change to fit the story, world, art style, and tone of the games. Link is usually the most noticeably different throughout the games due to the players getting control of him and seeing things through his perspective (or her in a certain case) on an adventure....

For players who want to start off 2021 with a scare, Bloober Team has something to offer: there’s only a few weeks left before The Medium arrives. After the back and forth of PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2020, some may have expected Bloober Team to put the pedal to the metal and get The Medium done in time to be a launch title for the Xbox Series X. Instead, the developer seemingly decided to play the long game and make sure the game is up to snuff rather than rushing the product, which has apparently been it’s go-to tactic for quite some time....

To be clear: “The Star Gazer” is largely excellent, offering us rich and rewarding character moments and the return of several old faces from our collective Star Trek: The Next Generation days, even as it sets up what are ostensibly the main arcs of the season....

Ezra Bridger, the Jedi protagonist from Star Wars: Rebels, is reportedly being cast in the upcoming Disney+ show. This story was broke by Kessel Run Transmissions who, for context, revealed that the Bad Batch and Lando Calrissian were getting their own shows prior to Disney’s announcement. Take this news with a grain of salt, at any rate. The actor they claim to be the frontrunner for playing Ezra Bridger is none other than Aladdin himself from the 2019 Disney remake, Mena Massoud....

From the moment that the protagonist of Star Wars Battlefront 2 was revealed, fans of the franchise have been eager to learn more about Iden Versio’s backstory. As it turns out, it won’t only be the single player campaign in which she stars, as this Imperial character will also be available in the multiplayer modes of the game. Although many suspected that Iden Versio would appear in the multiplayer gameplay of Star Wars Battlefront 2 as well as the single player modes, confirmation was only recently received from publisher Electronic Arts, as it continues to unveil the different playable heroes (and villains) of multiplayer....

Star Wars Battlefront 2 will not feature the Conquest game mode according to DICE’s associate design director Dennis Brännvall. This is sure to hurt for Battlefront fans. When EA confirmed that Star Wars Battlefront 2 is a go, fans were over the moon – glad that once again they would be able to fight within the hugely popular movie franchise’s universe. Many fans have already begun to put together Star Wars Battlefront 2 wishlists, hoping that several features will be added to the game when it arrives later in 2017....

Last December, during a Disney Investors Day presentation, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy unveiled the future of the Star Wars franchise, a future full of TV and movie projects set to explore the galaxy beyond the Skywalker Saga. That slate includes exciting directors Taika Waititi (Thor: Love and Thunder) and Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) taking on the next two Star Wars movies, while Ahsoka Tano, Lando Calrissian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Boba Fett will get their own Disney+ series....

State of Decay 2 developer Undead Labs has released a new piece of concept art from the upcoming sequel. The artwork is a slight variation of imagery that we saw in the game’s reveal trailer at E3 2016, which was set in a slightly darker take on the same landscape. “The endless road is a metaphor, promising a new world at the end of the horizon, but of course you never actually get to the end,” writes Undead Lab’s community manager Sanya Weathers in the blog post accompanying the State of Decay 2 image....

Twitch, the content creation mega-platform, is making headlines once again, though not for something as major as the indefinite suspension of Donald Trump. This time, it’s a controversial streamer calling out the platform for a contentious ban. Felix “xQc” Lengyel does not shy away from voicing his boisterous opinion to his 7.5-million followers on Twitch. Known for his professional gaming skills and outstanding personality, xQc took to Twitter to stand up for World of Warcraft streamer C9 Ziqo....

Street Fighter is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary this year, and Capcom has some surprises up its sleeves that are set to be revealed later in 2017. It has been thirty years since the first game in the much-loved Street Fighter franchise was released and, to celebrate the substantial anniversary, Capcom is teasing a special new project that is sure to make long time fans of the games very happy. In a recent interview with IGN, Street Fighter series producer Yoshinori Ono has teased that there will be some ‘surprises’ coming to the series later in the year....
