One of the most over-the-top JRPG franchises of all time, the Final Fantasy series has witnessed its fair share of powerful characters. JRPGs are generally considered to be over-the-top adventures, featuring a bunch of colorful characters as they romp through a 75+ hour journey — on an average — as they destroy seemingly unassailable evils, save the world from an approaching calamity, rescue the princess and bring light back to the world, or whatever cliched objective they need to achieve....

When developer Ubisoft Massive officially revealed The Division 2, the studio had a lot to say about the upcoming game. Creative Director Julian Gerighty promised that all of the DLC add-ons would be free, revealed that the sequel would feature 8-player raids, and eventually confirmed a release date. The developers for The Last Guardian are to provide a PlayStation 4 Pro update patch for the action-adventure game upon launch that will have the title support 4K upscaling. With The Last Guardian having recently gone gold, it’s safe to presume that plenty of gamers are eagerly anticipating its official launch next month in order to finally connote a precise end to the nearly decade-long production process for the game. Of course, considering the fact that the action-adventure title from the creators of the seminal Shadow of the Colossus was at one point in time being developed on the PlayStation 3, some fans are obviously wondering whether or not the graphics will hold up on Sony’s current generation platform....

A welcome aspect of The Last of Us 2 is its deep character and weapon upgrade system that allows for dynamic changes to the characters’ skillsets and arsenal abilities. Each gun that you get in the game, except for a few exceptions, has at least three or four modifications you can add to improve the weapon. With the next installment of the WWE franchise due in just a few short months, WWE 2K18 is promising fans a lot of improvements to the gameplay system, the Universe, and career modes. Even the awful commentary may actually get the much-needed and long overdue improvements it so desperately needs. How WWE 2K18 will turn out remains to be seen, but if the incredibly long history of WWE games — which extend much further back than the 17-year history of their current best-selling franchise – is anything to go by, it could be either be a huge hit or a terrible failure, so let’s hope it’s the former rather than latter....

The leaked info seems to be a confirmation of the rumor that circulated last month, when GameFly listed the game as a standalone rental coming in June. Considering that the dates of the two leaks line up, it stands to reason that this is looking like a very plausible release plan from Activision. Granted, Activision still needs to confirm these rumors, which would make many gamers happy since the publisher claimed late last year that the game wouldn’t see a standalone release....

Now that The Mandalorian, the first Star Wars live-action series, has made waves on Disney+, the House of Mouse is developing more TV projects set in the galaxy far, far away at lightspeed. On top of The Mandalorian season 2, an Obi-Wan Kenobi series, and perhaps a few Mandalorian spinoffs, Disney also has a series based on fan-favorite Rogue One spy Cassian Andor on the docket. Starring Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk, who played Cassian’s droid sidekick K-2SO in Rogue One, the new, untitled series is now set to film this year....

Some consider Starcraft to be one of, if not the, best real-time strategy games of all time. However, after twenty-two years, it is beginning to show its age. Luckily, a dedicated team of modders is working hard to bring the 90s classic to the 21st century. StarCraft: Mass Recall is an ongoing effort to recreate the original game in Starcraft 2. The mod is currently in version 0.8. It features 59 maps from the Brood War expansion, six from the demo campaign, and three cut from the original game....

Violent video games have been the subject of scientific study for nearly as long as gaming systems have existed out of concerns regarding their impact on players. One new study takes a look at violent video games and the potential for gamers who play them to exhibit increased levels of violence, and declares violent games had no significant impact on players. The University of York released their findings of two experiments encompassing nearly 3,000 participants, which is significantly more than most video game studies....

With the Nintendo Switch finally beginning to contain enough powerhouse titles to make the console worth buying for even the more hardcore of gamers, many developers are looking at porting existing titles over to the platform. This is certainly the case for ARK: Survival Evolved creator Studio Wildcard, who believe that the hybrid console is a “great platform” for the game but not one that is without its challenges. According to Studio Wildcard co-founder and co-creative director Jesse Rapczak, ARK: Survival Evolved would be a good fit for the Nintendo Switch, but there are still some issues that the company would have to face before confirming a port....
