Dotemu and Lizardcube’s smashingly fun brawler, Streets of Rage 4, manages to reinvent a classic Genesis series while still capturing that nostalgic retro charm. Just like its predecessors, it’s quickly become one of the more notable local multiplayer games of its era. The game provides tons of classic beat-’em-up fun with a slew of new stages, unique characters, and colorful, stylistic visuals. At the same time, fans will recognize similar mechanics, along with some series staples and callbacks from the Streets of Rage games of yesteryear....

Warner Bros. The Suicide Squad will mark the introduction of Idris Elba’s Robert DuBois, a.k.a. Bloodsport, to the DC Extended Universe. During a panel for the film at Brazil’s CCXP virtual event, director James Gunn and Elba provided a new glimpse at Bloodsport’s technologically advanced costume. While The Suicide Squad will include a number of cast members from David Ayer’s preceding film, Elba’s Bloodsport will be one of several newcomers added to the titular roster as part of Gunn’s effort to offer audiences a fresh take on the supervillain team....

It was discovered a few days back that Take-Two Interactive was in talks to acquire Codemasters, hoping to add it to a stable of major publishers that include 2K and Rockstar Games. It looks like those talks have worked out for Take-Two, as it announced today that it has reached an agreement with Codemasters’ executive board to acquire the British publisher/developer for approximately £759 million ($994 million). In a statement sent out to investors, it revealed that the buyout should be completed in the first quarter of 2021....

Ubisoft’s The Division 2 released this past weekend for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and with it comes another pulse-pounding round of in-street firefights, augmented reality, and looting, as players travel through a post-apocalyptic metropolis in an effort to maintain order and, hopefully, rebuild society. The Division 2 was one of the first major games to be announced as an Epic Games Store Exclusive, but thankfully, that doesn’t seem to have detracted from the level of effort that clearly went into making the game....

So, The Game Awards are gaming’s biggest award show and the closest thing we have to the Oscars in terms of an American-led prestige award show for video games. Geoff Keighley has done an excellent job running the show since 2014 and manages to outdo himself every time the show comes around. In a recent interview with Discussing Film, it was revealed that Emmy award-winning director, Johan Renck, would be helming the pilot for HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us. The showrunners for the series include Craig Mazin who recently collaborated with Renck on the acclaimed HBO series Chernobyl. During the interview, Renck described The Last of Us as an “ongoing TV series,” and because of that, he would be unable to direct every episode of the show as he did for Chernobyl....
