When the Nintendo Entertainment System brought the North American gaming market back from near-death, it quickly established a de facto monopoly over the medium. But the brave souls at Sega rose to challenge the company’s rule armed with nothing but ports of many of the best arcade games of all time and their own home console: The Sega Master System …And they were swiftly defeated. Despite being no slouch in terms of quality, Sega’s 8-bit answer to the NES failed to topple Nintendo’s black and gray crown, never reaching the sales figures of its rival console....

The Division open beta begins on Xbox One, letting players take on a brand new tech wing story mission and battle through the new and improve Dark Zones. Delayed multiple times since it was announced in 2013, Ubisoft’s sprawling open-world MMO The Division has been topping ‘‘most anticipated games’ lists for a while. Soon, the wait will be over as the game hits PC, PS4, and Xbox One in March. Before then, though, Ubisoft still has some testing and tweaking to do to get the game ready and lucky for impatient fans (or those who simply have not made their minds up about the game yet), that means that The Division is getting yet another beta; and it has just gone live on Xbox One....

The developers at Ubisoft Massive release an official teaser trailer for the forthcoming Last Stand DLC in its third-person shooter, Tom Clancy’s The Division. Not too long ago, Ubisoft Massive put out a survey focusing on Tom Clancy’s The Division’s Survival expansion from last year, which asked questions that led fans to speculate that the developer is considering adding DLC for a Last Man Standing or Battle Royale mode. While Ubisoft has failed to confirm as much, the company still plans on putting out what is purportedly the final portion of paid content for The Division – Last Stand, that is – with the expansion’s teaser trailer having been released today....

The Elder Scrolls Online had a rocky path to its console release. The game was initially meant to release in the summer of 2014 but as developer ZeniMax Online Studios had difficulty integrating their systems with those on PS4 and Xbox One, the game was delayed by six months. Then, as those six months began to run out, TESO was delayed again into 2015. When The Elder Scrolls Online eventually released on consoles in early June, a full year after the PC and Mac version, its launch wasn’t particularly smooth either....

As Naughty Dog’s record-breaking sequel continues to be debated throughout the gaming community, fans have spotted a small detail in the conclusion that could potentially change how fan’s perceive the ending. The Last of Us Part II appears to be open to more interpretation than before. As with anything discussing endings, the following contains spoilers to the PS4 sequel that should be read after completion of the game. The detail in question lies in a comment made by a user on YouTube in response to a review video that highlights something that Ellie’s wearing during the closing scene on the farm....

One would think the biggest shadow Star Trek: Lower Decks would have to escape is Star Trek itself. An animated comedy set in the Trek universe already has a lot of baggage, not least of which shifting the franchise from drama to adult comedy. Not too long ago, Electronic Arts and DICE decided to give Star Wars Battlefront 2 fans a better idea at the science fiction shooter’s next patch, which will incorporate the limited time Jetpack Cargo mode into the game. Now, the publisher and developer have officially confirmed the release date for Update 1.2 as February 19, 2018 across the title’s PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms. According to a recent post from the Star Wars Battlefront 2 community member known as “Sledgehammer70”, fans of the first-person shooter should expect to see Update 1....

Many of the villagers in Stardew Valley’s Pelican Town are very eccentric. They all have distinct personalities, interesting relationships, and peculiar ways of navigating life. This mystical and magical valley seems to be full of these characters, many of whom have some strange qualities. In Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns, there are seven different bachelorettes for your male farmer to romance. As with the choice for female farmers, one of these is Inari, a fox spirit guardian who can form a non-traditional romantic relationship with males or females. There is also a bachelorette only available with the additional New Neighbor DLC pack. Another twist in the tale for male farmers is that two of the choices for partners are twins....

Coming from developer Greylock Studio, Severed Steel is a new shooter slated to launch this Summer on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Announced via a frantically-paced trailer and a post on the PlayStation Blog, the game’s designer, Matt Larrabee, claims the experience features “fully destructible voxel environment[s], loads of bullet time, and a unique one-armed protagonist.” If players needed any more convincing, Severed Steel’s trailer seems to back up Larrabee’s description, showing the game’s protagonist gunning down waves of armored henchman through slow-motion acrobatics and brutal gunplay....

The news follows what many are dubbing the Twitch streamer’s “bong incident,” accidentally revealing part of (what looked to be) a “recreational” apparatus, shall we say. Supergiant Games, the studio behind such titles as Bastion and the currently in-beta Hades, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. However, rather than asking for gifts, it seems that Supergiant is giving players the gift of music to help celebrate the occasion. As of today, fans of the indie studio can pre-order The Songs of Supergiant Games: 10th Anniversary Orchestral Collection through Supergiant’s website. The collection features orchestral arrangements of composer Darren Korb’s work from Bastion, Transistor, Pyre, and Hades, and was recorded at the famous Studio Two at Abbey Road Studios....

HORI has unveiled a trifecta of new available colors for the Switch Split Pad Pro, scheduled to be available on September 7th. The announcement was made over the official HORI Twitter, where HORI revealed the three new colors. Until the controllers are officially released, the only available color scheme is the Daemon X Machina themed red and black controller, so if that’s more your speed, feel free to gear up earlier....

Niantic has changed the requirements for one of the research tasks needed to reach level 42, and it’s all Sylveon’s fault. Niantic recently introduced Sylveon to Pokemon Go for the first time as part of last month’s Luminous Legends Y event. The addition of Sylveon now means all of Eevee’s possible evolutions are available. That left some trainers on their way to the game’s elusive level 50 wondering whether a particular research task would also be updated....

While fans are still reeling from the news that Red Dead Redemption 2 has been delayed into 2018, publisher Take-Two Interactive is feeling the effects even more so. Shortly after Take-Two announced its highly anticipated sequel wouldn’t be making its planned fall 2017 release, the company’s stock took a substantial dive. Earlier in the day, Take-Two’s stock was doing perfectly fine, and was even slightly up. Then the news broke of the Red Dead Redemption 2 delay, and the stock dropped by about 7 points, from 69 to 62....

Sad news for Pokemon card collectors. Retail giant Target has announced that it will no longer make trading cards available for purchase in stores. This ban will include cards from the Pokemon Trading Card Game as well as various sports cards. Citing an “abundance of caution” for the safety of employees and customers, the retailer confirmed to Bleeding Cool that it will no longer carry the cards beginning May 14....
