Google Stadia recently held its Holiday Live Hangout event, announcing several big projects and dropping two new games that are now available for free with Stadia Pro. However, one partnership is of particular interest, despite the fact Google didn’t give us many details – Stadia is now collaborating with Thunderful Games to craft a new exclusive for the cloud gaming service.

Thunderful Games is responsible for several hit indie titles, including the popular Steamworld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech. Released in 2019, Hand of Gilgamech current has just under 1,000 reviews on Steam and a “Very Positive” review score. The same goes for last year’s Lonely Mountains: Downhill – a mountain biking game brought to life with a wonderful low-poly art style. The team at Thunderful has some impressive games under their belt, and we’re curious to learn more about this upcoming Stadia collaboration.

However, both Google and Thunderful are being tightlipped about the project.

“We hope we can reveal more early next year. We are working really hard and can’t wait to show everyone what we are up to!” said Klaus Lyngeled, Head of Development at Thunderful Games. Lyngeled also discussed how developing on Stadia is a bit different from other platforms, as “the cloud makes it incredibly easy to test internally and externally, especially now that we’re all working from home during the pandemic.”

Lyngeled also mentioned previous games developed by Thunderful, and may have revealed a bit more about what we can expect its Stadia title to look like – or rather, what it won’t look like. “We love creating innovative games and Stadia’s technology makes it so easy to try something different… We think this will let people try new types of games that they usually wouldn’t.” Does this mean a brand-new IP is in development as opposed to a spin-off or sequel to an existing franchise?

Until next year, we’ll all be left guessing.

Google also announced two games now available on Stadia during the Holiday Live Hangout – Outcasters and Submerged: Hidden Depths – along with Valkyria Chronicles 4: Complete Edition launching on December 8 and new content for Journey to the Savage Planet.
