Star Wars Battlefront 2: Celebration Edition is the next free game heading to the Epic Games Store. Starting next week on January 14 and ending January 21, anyone will be able to pick up the iconic Star Wars title at no cost.
Battlefront 2 has come a long way since launch. Originally panned by both critics and consumers, there wasn’t much to like about the microtransaction-heavy shooter. However, several patches over the past few years have turned Battlefront 2 into the game it was meant to be.
Epic Games Store is even offering up the Celebration Edition for free, meaning you’ll gain access to the base game along with “the complete collection of customization content acquirable through in-game purchase from launch up to – and including – items inspired by Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”
That’s a lot of free stuff.
Star Wars Battlefront 2: Celebration Edition first released in 2019. At that point, the base game was already two years old – and in a much better place than it was in the first few months after launch. Despite making big changes, the game was never able to capture a massive audience or live up to the hype of the original Battlefront 2 from 2005. Hopefully launching as a free game on the Epic Games Store will boost its player population and give the aging title a second life.
For now, you can pick up Crying Suns on the service for free. It’ll be available until January 14 at 11:00am, at which time Battlefront 2 will become Epic’s free game of the week. Star Wars: Battlefront 2: Celebration Edition typically retails for $39.99, so make sure you find time to pick up the game for free while you can.
The Epic Games Store tradition of passing out free games seems to be getting off to a strong start in 2021. We’re not sure what to expect from the company next, but seeing a high-profile title like Battlefront 2 join the service is no doubt a good omen for the months to come.
