Not only did this year’s Star Wars Celebration give fans their first look at Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but it also revealed details on the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront 2. Star Wars Battlefront 2 sounds like a step up from 2015’s entry in every single way, adding many fan-requested features, including split-screen co-op, which will be available at launch this time around.

Not much is known about Star Wars Battlefront 2’s split-screen co-op at this time, but it’s likely that it will have some story implications. Star Wars Battlefront 2’s story follows Imperial soldier Iden Versio, who witnesses the destruction of the second Death Star at the end of Return of the Jedi. Versio then goes on a quest for revenge, which will lead into the events of the ongoing sequel trilogy. It’s unclear how the co-op mode will tie into Versio’s story, if it does at all, but more details should come at EA’s E3 2017 press conference in June.

While we wait for more information on how Star Wars Battlefront 2 will handle co-op and how it will fit in the game’s story, there’s a couple of other details we’ve been given about the feature so far. Unfortunately for PC owners, Star Wars Battlefront 2’s split-screen co-op functionality will be exclusive to the console versions of the game, meaning only PS4 and Xbox One owners can enjoy its benefits. However, it’s likely that PC gamers will still be able to play co-op with a friend online, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet, and it’s possible that the mode is an offline-only experience.

Another detail we know about Star Wars Battlefront 2’s co-op mode is that it will allow players to win exclusive rewards that carry over into the multiplayer component. These rewards will mainly consist of customization options that players can take into the 40-player online multiplayer battles, so even players that would typically avoid co-op modes may want to consider checking it out.

That’s all we know about Star Wars Battlefront 2’s co-op mode for now, but as stated previously, more details should come at E3 2017 in June. However, it sounds like Star Wars Battlefront 2’s co-op will be similar to the horde mode-like co-op featured in 2015’s Battlefront game, but again, we can’t confirm that at this time.

As it stands, there’s some confusion on how DICE will be implementing co-op in Star Wars Battlefront 2, but more information will come to light in the months leading up to the game’s release.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 will launch on November 17th for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
