Protocol droids are some of the most put-upon characters in the Star Wars universe. When considering the treatment C-3PO went through alone (constant insults and critical damage), it’s a miracle that the long-suffering droids have not staged their own (well-mannered) revolution. However, when one Star Wars Battlefront 2 player decided to provoke one of the peaceful characters, he learned that his bumbling opponent was a lot more violent than it let on.

Previously, Star Wars Battlefront 2 faced criticism for its emphasis on microtransactions and some glaring glitches. Since its initial controversy, developer Electronic Arts has eased up on the loot boxes and continued to support the game. However, EA’s patches did not account for the encounter in a recent Reddit video, where user Scorpion5437 met his demise during the game’s Dauntless mission.

While running through the Star Wars Battlefront 2 campaign, Scorpion5437 decided to electrocute a protocol droid he ran across. However, he did not expect the droid to respond by drawing a blaster and returning fire. When the player shot the droid repeatedly in an attempt to kill it, the robot shook it off and proceeded to gun him down.

Although some fans theorized that this homicidal droid was an Easter egg referencing an evil C-3PO from the comics, Scorpion5437 concluded that his death was due to a glitch. In the comments, he noted that when scanning for enemies, the supposedly harmless robot had registered as an assault-class droid. The player was also running around in a level area that is normally blocked off by a closed door, which might have made the environment even more volatile and unpredictable. Because of this context, and because the protocol droid is always there but usually innocuous, this doesn’t appear to be a game-breaking bug, and it will likely be patched with the next Battlefront 2 update.

As a result, players of Star Wars Battlefront 2 won’t have to worry about their protocol droids revolting anytime soon. Unless Electronic Arts decides to make a protocol droid skin or make enemies based off of the mild-mannered robots, these droids will only take actions in community-made mods. Until such a mod comes out, players can pass the time by mowing down enemies as Baby Yoda.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
