Star Wars Battlefront is one of the most highly anticipated games of 2015. The multiplayer-focused shooter is currently set to release this November, and both fans of the iconic science fiction franchise and of video games in general are excited to see what developer DICE has in store. Promising an experience that is set to be noticeably different from the developer’s Battlefield franchise, both DICE and publisher EA are hoping that the title will live up to an expected 9-10 million units sold.
As of yet, however, players have only had a stream of updates to keep them informed of how the project is progressing. EA has teased would-be players with plenty of content, most recently the Battle of Jakku DLC pack. Although the news has seemed promising to some, many gamers were left wondering exactly when a Beta test of Star Wars Battlefront would launch, to get a real idea of how the title could be expected to play.
Now, players have found out exactly when they can expect to get a first taste of Star Wars Battlefront. In a recent update from EA, the publisher revealed that the game’s official beta is coming soon. According to the post, the Star Wars Battlefront Beta will launch in early October, complete with a brand new game mode in the form of Drop Zone.
At the moment, little is known about the Drop Zone game mode, with EA promising that it will be “sharing more details on Drop Zone in the weeks ahead.” The mode was initially teased last month, alongside two other game modes: Cargo, which seems to be Star Wars Battlefront’s take on Capture the Flag, and Supremacy, which is expected to have some kind of objective-based gameplay. More news is expected on all three modes in the coming weeks.
Alongside Drop Zone, however, are two gameplay modes that will be a little more familiar to Beta players. Walker Assault will set players up on the beloved location of Hoth, with a 40-strong multiplayer map complete with ground and air units, as well as the chance for gamers to play as both Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. Meanwhile, the Survival game mode will place Rebel players on Tatooine, tasked with fending off wave after wave of Empire forces.
Star Wars fans will no doubt be excited to get their hands on the Beta, but at the moment details are still a little vague. As it stands, there is no indicator of when the Beta will start other than some time in early October, or how gamers can sign up in the first place - although more details are sure to come soon. Let’s see whether the game’s multiplayer gameplay manages to make up for the title’s lack of single player campaign.
Star Wars Battlefront is currently set to release on November 17, 2015, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
