DICE’s and Electronic Arts’ Star Wars Battlefront gets fresh outfits, private matches, daily challenges, and more modes on Tattooine with a free update starting tomorrow.
According to a post written by Star Wars Battlefront’s senior producer, Sigurlina Ingvarsdottir, starting tomorrow, DICE’s and Electronic Arts’ sci-fi shooter will add free support for the Blast, Droid Run, Drop Zone, Hero Hunt, and Heroes vs Villains multiplayer modes to the Tatooine Survival map, which will now be dubbed Raider Camp. The news comes after yesterday’s tease from the game’s publisher of a reveal for Hoth-related content, which has now been confirmed as the update giving Luke Skywalker and Han Solo some new duds with Hoth-themed outfits.
On top of the free update, Star Wars Battlefront will get balancing tweaks to weapons and modes, daily challenges and community events, and perhaps most importantly, the ability for players to finally create Private Matches, which weren’t available at launch. Plans for future free content was also discussed with updates through March, as well as a closer look at what the game’s Season Pass will contain in the month, including the paid updates of maps in the Outer Rim, the Cloud City of Bespin, and on the famous Death Star.
Regarding all of the new developments for tomorrow’s download, as well as the plans for future updates, Ingvarsdottir promised a continual stream of solid materials throughout the duration of the year. In fact, Battlefront’s senior producer wrote:
If Battlefront fans don’t already consider the previously noted content to be an embarrassment of riches, the next free update in February will provide even more with a new survival mission on Hoth, and a new Hoth multiplayer map that will support larger game modes including Walker Assault, Supremacy, Fighter Squadron and Turning Point. Then, March’s free addition will include another multiplayer map on Endor that will support the aforementioned modes excluding Fighter Squadron, as well as an additional Tatooine Survival map.
“As we said back in November, the release of Star Wars Battlefront was just the beginning. Our team has been listening to your feedback and building a calendar of new content and tuning changes we will be making to the game throughout 2016. . . . In addition to the free content we will be delivering through March, we will continue to listen to our community throughout the year and provide updates designed to make Star Wars Battlefront even more fun for everyone.”
While the inclusion of gratis goodies will definitely perk some Battlefront fans up, the paid materials should excite them too. For those players looking for more details on the Season Pass’ expansion packs — each of which can be purchased as standalone items — Electronic Arts has given details and descriptions for the bundles, as seen below.
- Star Wars™ Battlefront™ Outer Rim (March 2016) - Fight among the factories of Sullust and battle within Jabba the Hutt’s palace on Tatooine Star Wars™ Battlefront™ Bespin (Summer 2016) - It’s hunt or be hunted in this action-packed experience set in the Cloud City of Bespin Star Wars™ Battlefront™ Death Star (Fall 2016) – That’s no moon! One of the most iconic locations in the Star Wars universe makes its debut in Star Wars Battlefront. Star Wars™ Battlefront™ Expansion Pack 4 – Title TBA (Early 2017) – We will have more details to share about this exciting new expansion pack in the coming months.
Considering all that Star Wars Battlefront’s developers have mapped out for the road ahead, fans of the first-person shooter who were worried about its longevity will probably rest easy for now. If anything, all of the content that’s currently in the works for the rest of 2016 should at the very least make up for the fact that there won’t be any more Episode 7 - The Force Awakens DLC.
Star Wars Battlefront is out now and is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
