DICE and Electronic Arts release an official trailer for the science fiction shooter Star Wars Battlefront’s forthcoming expansion pack Rogue One: Scarif.
With the release date for Star Wars Battlefront’s impending expansion being next week for those who own the Season Pass, the game’s developers have decided to put out a trailer to give fans a feel for what the science fiction shooter’s final piece of paid DLC will be like. Plus, since the expansion pack is based off of the next movie in the iconic film series, Rogue One: Scarif is also intended to operate as a promotion for the franchise’s newest cinematic release hitting theaters in the middle of this month.
As seen in the Star Wars Battlefront trailer below, there’s not too much gameplay to be gleaned from the footage, but rather a plethora of cut-scene materials. In terms of actual playable aspects, Rogue One: Scarif is set to include four new maps, as well as the hero Jyn Erso and villain Orson Krennic.
In addition to the aforementioned features, Battlefront’s upcoming DLC will let players fight in and around the tropical planet of Scarif with a brand new multi-stage game mode that includes space and ground combat. Not to mention, the Rogue One-inspired expansion will also have fresh weapons and Star Cards.
Those who want to purchase the Rogue One: Scarif expansion for Star Wars Battlefront as a standalone item can do so for $15. Of course, fans who have yet to experience any piece of the first-person shooter’s post-launch content and wish to do so can buy the game’s Ultimate Edition, which gives players access to the Season Pass.
Ever since its release over a year ago, Star Wars Battlefront’s developers have been keeping the game flush with content, but as previously noted, Rogue One: Scarif will be the final installment of DLC. Upon the last expansion’s release, it will join the ranks of packages such as the Death Star and Bespin add-ons.
Beyond the imminent launch of Rogue One: Scarif for Star Wars Battlefront, fans are surely wondering what the future holds for the franchise when it comes to the series’ de facto followup. At this point in time, developers have promised that the unofficially titled Battlefront 2 will have a release in the fall of 2017. Furthermore, Electronic Arts’ CFO Blake Jorgensen recently declared at an investors’ meeting in Europe that the sequel to 2015’s Star Wars Battlefront will be “much bigger” in terms of its depth. That said, it’s worth mentioning that quantity doesn’t necessarily denote quality, so hopefully DICE and EA will also be able to refine the next entry by including all that was lacking from the last game at launch, such as a single-player mode.
Star Wars Battlefront is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
