Star Wars introduced several iconic film characters that continue to endure as fan-favorites decades after the original trilogy concluded, including Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia Organa. Now, a Deepfake video imagines what Stranger Things and Godzilla vs. Kong star Millie Bobby Brown might look like as the famous Star Wars heroine.
After a string of supporting roles in television shows including BBC’s The Intruders and ABC’s Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, Brown was introduced to most audiences as the psychokinetic and telepathic child known as Eleven in Netflix’s Stranger Things. The success of the series paved the way for Brown to land her first feature film roles with projects such as Netflix’s Enola Holmes, in which she portrays the titular sister of Sherlock Holmes, and two of Legendary’s MonsterVerse movies starting with Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
While Brown has not joined the Star Wars franchise, Stryder HD created a new Deepfake video that imagines the Stranger Things star as Princess Leia using footage from some of the character’s most memorable moments in the original trilogy. The popularity of the video prompted the creator to later utilize the same technology to place Brown into Princess Leia’s cameo at the end of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. While Disney and Lucasfilm do not appear to have any intention of producing a Star Wars project featuring a younger Princess Leia at this time, the teenage version of the character, voiced by Julie Dolan, famously appeared in a 2016 episode of the animated series Star Wars Rebels. Of course, Fisher would reprise the role of Leia in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi before posthumously appearing in The Rise of Skywalker through repurposed deleted footage originally shot for the first chapter of the sequel trilogy.
Disney’s slate of upcoming Star Wars projects will focus on other familiar characters, starting with a series centered on Obi-Wan Kenobi set before the events of A New Hope but after the fall of the Jedi in Revenge of the Sith. Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Disney Plus series, which is expected to explore the Jedi’s time in exile on the desert planet Tatooine. Hayden Christensen, who portrayed Anakin Skywalker in the final two installments of George Lucas’ prequel trilogy, will reunite with McGregor in Obi-Wan Kenobi when he returns to the role of Darth Vader in the series.
Meanwhile, Brown will reprise her role as Eleven in the fourth season of Netflix’s Stranger Things. The series was one of the many projects to postpone production and consequently delay its premiere due to the shutdowns brought upon by the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, Brown’s return to the MonsterVerse franchise with Godzilla vs. Kong will occur sooner than expected. The film was scheduled to be released in 2020 until the COVID-19 pandemic forced the studio to delay its debut until May 2021, though Warner Bros. ultimately decided to move the blockbuster up to March 2021 on both HBO Max and in select theaters.
The Star Wars saga is now available on Disney Plus.
