A few weeks back, developer Aspyr revealed that its upcoming port of Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer would be delayed on PS4, but that the Switch version was still on track for its May 12, 2020 release. Now that seems to have all changed, as the developer has now confirmed that both the Switch and PlayStation 4 version will be delayed even further than originally expected.
The news comes the way of Aspyr’s official Twitter account. The company posted the statement just a few hours ago, letting fans know that they’ll have to wait a bit longer before getting their hands on the much-anticipated title.
Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer was originally announced during the March 2020 Nintendo Direct, much to the excitement of longtime fans. Aspyr says that the delay, just like the original one a few weeks back, is due to the fact that the employees are working from home thanks to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Unfortunately, there’s no telling when Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer will be officially released at this point. Aspyr failed to give any new release date or release window in their tweet, saying that it will update fans as soon as possible. After the original delay, the game was supposed to release on PlayStation 4 on May 26, 2020, but given the developer’s wording, it certainly seems like it’ll be released sometime after that point.
Unfortunately, in today’s tough times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these sorts of delays are inevitable. There’s no real way that developers can do the exact same amount of work at home that they’d be able to do in their offices and it’s unrealistic to expect that of them. Delays are a part of the business whether people like it or not, especially when there’s a virus spreading around the world, threatening the lives of everyone.
That being said, it does stink for fans of the title and those that were looking forward to the game’s release tomorrow, especially being so close to the original release date, just to see it pushed back indefinitely.
Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer is set to be available on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch sometime this year.
