If Twitter has its way, we might get a sequel to that Han Solo movie from a few years ago.
Yeah, it sort of feels like a lifetime ago, but society used to do this thing where people would pay money to be shoved into a big room with an even bigger screen so we could all eat overpriced and over-salted popcorn, drink way more soda than a human being should, and watch a movie. In 2018, one of those movies happened to be Solo: A Star Wars Story, and now Star Wars fans are asking for a sequel.
The hashtag #MakeSolo2Happen is trending on Twitter thanks to the grass-roots efforts of Star Wars fans posting their favorite scenes and memes from the movie. There’s even a dedicated Twitter account devoted to organizing people into fighting for the film’s sequel.
Could it happen? Well, not right now, but maybe in the future. Solo did make a profit when it was released in theatres, grossing $393 million at the box office from a budget of roughly $275 million. And there are clearly legions of Star Wars faithful that are ready and willing to see a brand new Star Wars film, regardless of who stars in it (although Alden Ehrenreich certainly did a fantastic job of playing Star Wars’ loveable rogue).
Heck, if there wasn’t a pandemic going on, Disney might have even announced Solo 2 was in early production. Sadly, everything is on hold these days. But you can keep the dream alive with a hashtag at least.
