It appears that a good number of Star Wars fans want to see Disney make a sequel to its 2018 film, Solo: A Star Wars Story. Although requests for a Solo 2 movie has been prevalent since the release of the movie, fans have ramped up their campaign for the sequel, and thus, the hashtag #MakeSolo2Happen was born.
During the past Memorial Day weekend, Star Wars fans went on Twitter to vent out their request for Disney to make a follow-up film to Solo: A Star Wars Story. While some made lengthy tweets on why a sequel should be made, others took their campaigning to a whole new level by creating concept posters and even t-shirts featuring the #MakeSolo2 Happen hashtag. Although the hashtag has since gained traction on Twitter, it appears that Solo 2 remains unlikely.
Looking at the history of Star Wars films, Solo only made a total of $392 million worldwide from a budget of $275 million. That number is no comparison to the profits generated by other Star Wars films such as The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker, and even the offshoot film Rogue One, who each earned upwards of $1 billion at the box office. But if a Solo 2 movie for theaters is unlikely, how about a show or a film for Disney+? Unfortunately, this too may not happen at the moment given that Solo’s co-writer Jon Kasdan confirmed that a sequel is not in development for Disney+.
Despite the odds, there is a small chance that the recent campaign by Star Wars fans could lead to something that may prompt Disney to change its mind. But from where things stand right now, a Solo 2 film or TV show remains highly unlikely.
