The Mandalorian has quickly cemented itself as a new fan favorite in Star Wars canon. From the western vibes, to experiencing the galaxy far far away from the perspective from someone other than a Skywalker, there’s a lot to love. One aspect fans have loved is Giancarlo Esposito’s role as Moff Gideon at the end of Season one.
Moff Gideon is an intimidating, dark presence. While he only makes his appearance towards the tail end of the season, Moff Gideon is a terrifying antagonist. With the popularity of The Mandalorian, it would not be surprising to see Moff Gideon in a video game, and fans might see this come to light quite soon. A fair bit of warning: there may be slight spoilers for The Mandalorian ahead.
According to recent interviews, Giancarlo Esposito teased that he was involved with a video game project that was huge. For Esposito, this project introduced a new style of acting, and he did not delve further into the topic, but merely stating that the project itself is “huge.” While this is not definitive of a Star Wars related project, it is not out of the realm of possibility with some things considered.
Chances Of A Moff Gideon/ The Mandalorian Project
Giancarlo Esposito has not been in a video game title since Payday 2, so for him to start teasing a large project only sets off alarm bells. Esposito’s most famous roles have been within the Breaking Bad and Star Wars franchises, with the latter having a lot of push recently from EA. Recently, the gameplay reveal for Star Wars: Squadrons actually teased some cameos from TV Shows, specifically Star Wars: Rebels. This could be a brief cameo from Moff Gideon, but then that would seem to go against the way Esposito described this project as “huge.”
Recently, EA has announced being committed to producing larger projects within the Star Wars universe and alludes to more significant entries down the line. EA CEO Andrew Wilson commented on EA being familiar with the franchise since Star Wars: The Old Republic, and does not shy away from the idea of exploring various genres. The Mandalorian reached feverish excitement quickly, so to not see those characters in comics, video games, or some inclusion outside the TV Series would seem out of the ordinary for a franchise known to capitalize on merchandise and spin-offs for all its characters. Usually, actors involved in the Star Wars franchise have contracts keeping them not only in the main series, but having their likeness in other Star Wars projects so a Moff Gideon video game debut is highly probable. However, don’t be surprised if the project does not see the light of day as canceled Star Wars projects are not something new.
Esposito Could Be In An Entirely Different Video Game Franchise
Don’t lose hope on a potential Mandalorian video game, it is something that feels like it is bound to happen eventually, but the alternative to this story is not bad at all. So a big rumor circulating is that Esposito is going to be a part of Far Cry, and will possibly play the next Villain. It seems somewhat fitting with Esposito’s co-star Michael Mando having played the infamous Vaas. The only basis on this rumor is a now-deleted article from the site Gamereactor that claimed Esposito was reached out to by Ubisoft. Likewise, Esposito’s comments are timed pretty well with the Ubisoft Forward event being held on July 12. The timing alone feels like a great marketing move to start the rumor mill and hype going, or it can be all coincidence. We only have to wait about a week to find out until the event, or if something leaks.
