Today marks another reason to own a next-gen console. Jedi Fallen Order has received its next-gen upgrade for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and is currently available for download with increased performance.

EA announced the next-gen upgrade back in April as part of an early May the Fourth celebration but didn’t provide a specific timeline. Then earlier this week, a UK games retailer spoke with TheGamer and gave us a hard deadline of Friday, June 11. Friday is here, and now so is Star Wars Jedi as promised.

What you get with this free upgrade depends on your platform. The best performance improvements are reserved for the Xbox Series X, which will get both “Normal” and “Performance” options. On Performance, the framerate is increased to 60 FPS and dynamic resolution is increased to between 1080p and 1440p. On Normal mode, resolution scales from 1512p to 2160p, with postprocessing up to 4K.

The Xbox Series S is stuck at 1080p but gets a framerate bump to 60 FPS. The PS5 also gets a jump to 60 FPS but gets a locked resolution of 1200p and a postprocessing bump to 1440p. Expect faster loading times on all three consoles.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order received critical acclaim when it released back in 2019, was nominated for several 2019 and 2020 awards, and won the category for Adventure Game of the Year at the 23rd Annual D.I.C.E. Awards.

Our own Eric Switzer gave Jedi Fallen Order a 3.5 out of 5, with kind words for the game’s aesthetic and story but a dislike of the game’s lack of customization options.

A physical re-release is also coming, according to our earlier reports, so if you just can’t stand to be without an actual disc to stick into your Xbox Series X, then feel free to saunter on down to your nearest game retailer to pick one up (provided you’re not under a government-mandated COVID lockdown, that is).
