Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is one of the many games that were featured at EA Play this Saturday. The first official gameplay reveal gave fans a 15-minute sneak peek of in-game footage that unveiled the game’s combat system, force powers, level design and many more. However, among the many features that were revealed at EA Play, the game’s director wanted fans to remember two things about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. First, Fallen Order is a single-player game, and second, it will have linear gameplay.
In a post-EA Play interview by Gamespot, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s director Stig Asmussen shared his insights on the recent gameplay reveal earlier. The director revealed that apart from Metroid, which influenced Fallen Order’s level design, other titles such as Bloodborne and Dark Souls were also sources of inspiration for the game’s approach to “thoughtful combat.” When asked what the developer wanted fans to remember from everything that has been revealed at EA Play, Asmussen replied that he wanted players to remember that this is not an open-world game, and its progression system will be strictly linear.
Continuing on, Asmussen said that although the gameplay will be mostly scripted and linear, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will still be driven by player choice and how they want the main character to progress based on the abilities that they have. However, it is worth remembering that the player choice mentioned does not include the ability to choose a side in the game. During the EA Play reveal, Respawn Entertainment confirmed that because the main character Cal has a set story already, players won’t be able to choose whether to align with the light or dark side in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
While Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is not an open world game, Electronic Arts did have an open-world Star Wars game in the works. Before it was shut down, Visceral Games was working on its own Star Wars game with a similar approach to the Uncharted franchise and likely Fallen Order. But when Visceral shut down, the project was then turned over to EA Vancouver, where it started to develop the unannounced game as an open-world RPG, but the project has since been canceled by EA for unclear reasons.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is set to release on November 15, 2019, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
