There’s a lot of ridiculous Stardew items, from weird statues to movie posters, but perhaps the weirdest item ever to arrive in Stardew Valley is the mummified bat. It’s a bat that, for some reason, has been “perfectly preserved” inside a rock in the Volcano Dungeon, with your odds of finding one as low as one out of every 200 volcanic rocks smashed.
At least, that’s what the odds were intended to be. A bug on the Nintendo Switch prevented the Mummified Bat from dropping at all when it was introduced in update 1.5, leading to many a Reddit thread (as noted by Destructoid) where players ask how they can ever obtain a Mummified Bat (apparently one fix was to reset your drop rates by performing Qi’s crop quest).
Thankfully, the “notorious Mummified Bat issue” has been solved as of today, according to Stardrew creator ConcernedApe, along with “A few bugs and crashes.”
The funny thing is that you can’t really do much with the Mummified Bat. It’s an ingredient for the Skeleton Shirt, can be turned into fertilizer, or donated to the Island Field Office in exchange for a Golden Walnut, but all the villagers hate the bat if given as a gift. Even Dwarf, which seems like it’d be right up their alley.
Update 1.5.4.2 for Stardew Valley is live on the Nintendo Switch, so be sure to download it to find your own mummified bat.
