Stardew Valley is a beloved farming simulator that allows its players to live out their fantasy of quitting a terrible 9-5 job in the city and moving to the country to work on a farm. However, unusual elements like magic, secret relationships, and deep, unexplored caves add a little spice to small-town life.

Abigail is a young woman who lives in Pelican Town, the village just beside your farm. Her father, Pierre, is the local shopkeeper who is struggling to compete with the supermarket chain. Her mother, Caroline, is a plant-lover who helps out around her husband’s store and keeps the public gardens beautiful. As with every family, mischief arises.

9 Abigail > Emily

One of the first rumours that fans hear about Stardew Valley is how Abigail is suspected to be the love-child of Caroline and the Wizard who lives in the forest beside Pelican town. There’s plenty of evidence in-game; the Wizard will tell the player point-blank that he believes he has a daughter living in the town, and Caroline will mention that she used to go for walks in the forest around the time she became pregnant.

The purple hair doesn’t hurt. However, there’s also reason to suspect that Emily is the Wizard’s daughter since she’s deeply interested in the occult. Most fans prefer the former theory because it’s simple: fans see purple hair and they just assume.

8 Rocks = Food

Giving the residents of Pelican Town their perfect gifts is an essential part of moving the story forward since a lot of the interesting cutscenes occur once the player has reached a certain heart level with an NPC.

However, a few of the villagers have unusual preferences about the gifts they want to receive. Abigail, when given a gift she loves, always asks how the player knew she was hungry, and that their gift looks delicious - even when the gift is a gemstone.

7 They’ll Never Leave Him Alone

Abigail is a part of a band trio with Sebastian and Sam, two other young villagers. The three of them are well-matched since they’re all into alternative lifestyles and have complicated relationships with their families. However, there’s a clear personality divide among them.

Sam and Sebastian might have a special relationship because they’re both guys, and Abigail and Sebastian might have a special relationship because they’re both a little depressed, Sam and Abigail are clearly the chaotic heart-and-soul of the band. It’s a wonder that Sebastian hasn’t quit already.

6 The Most Beautiful Bachelors

Sebastian and Abigail are both pretty popular among the game’s fans as candidates to romance and marry. To be fair, they seem to be designed that way: Abigail plays video games, for example, which is bound to appeal to someone playing Stardew Valley.

The two of them, along with Sam, are also pretty good friends. Lots of fans theorize, assuming the player doesn’t marry one of them, that Sebastian and Abigail are dating. Here’s hoping that it doesn’t lead to a messy breakup of the band.

5 Learn To Accept What You Cannot Change

Stardew Valley has a wonderfully planned out cooking system in which the player can craft simple meals, like salads and omelettes, all the way to more complicated concoctions, like stir fry and blackberry cobbler. Abigail does enjoy some of the more complicated meals as gifts - like chocolate cake - but nothing compares to the delight (apparently) of a delicious raw mineral.

Quartz is often referenced in the memes which poke fun at her rock-eating habit since they’re fairly common in the mine and they’re disliked or hated by a number of other villagers. But, as Tumblr user sprites-and-junimos says, “Abi won’t hear it!”

4 The Ultimate Betrayal

Though Pierre seems friendly at the start of the game, many players grow to despise him. There are multiple fair reasons for this hatred; for example, Caroline will comment that he’s possessive of her and jealous of other men.

However, if they choose to romance Abigail (as so many people do), they’ll get caught up in the whirlwind as Abigail rails against her father’s controlling influence. It’s easy to hate Pierre after that since he really doesn’t come off as the good guy. Reddit user Drumlords captures this dynamic perfectly.

3 Always With The Quartz

TheXyloGuy on Reddit, like Abigail and Emily, know that the mines have the real food. After spending hours in the mines, players come back loaded up with goodies. That’s assuming they didn’t faint, of course, since both the Skull Cavern and the local mines can be difficult to traverse at the deepest levels.

All the quartz in their pockets is perfect for players trying to increase their friendship with Abigail since turning it into Refined Quartz can’t continue forever. Emily, another friendly bachelorette from Pelican Town, also likes receiving Quartz as a gift, so when Abigail’s reached her maximum number of gifts in a week, it’s Emily’s turn.

2 Bisexual Pals

The most obvious romantic pairing in Pelican Town’s hottest new millennial band is Sebastian and Abigail. The pair both favour dark clothes and have less-than-perfect relationships with their parents. Plus, they dance together at the Flower Dance if the player doesn’t ask one of them first!

However, depending on your interpretation of their interactions, there’s a case to be made for a relationship between Sam and Abigail, or Sam and Sebastian. Being able to just guess is probably the most fun part.

1 Closed On Wednesdays…

It’s an experience every player has: they’re on their way to Pierre’s to sell their crops and be paid instantly, rather than the next morning. They arrive, having made the long trek into town, only to be reminded: Pierre’s is closed on Wednesdays. It’s a pretty sinking feeling to make a wasted trip, plus it kills your chances to earn friendship points with Caroline, Abigail, or Pierre that day.

Though it may seem hopeless to flirt with Abigail on Wednesdays, don’t give up just yet! You’d never know unless you were in the right place at the right time, but she actually goes to the Museum when her dad shuts down for Wednesdays.
