Krobus, Stardew Valley’s resident monster friend was the last “marriage” candidate added to the game and is the strangest one so far. Due to his strange route, there has been some confusion in the community. You may be asking yourself “can you marry Krobus?” The answer is no, he doesn’t actually marry you, but he can become your roommate. Once moved in, Krobus somewhat acts as a spouse would. He only has two heart events, neither of which will play a part in him moving in. You even need to get a special item to get him out of the sewers and into your home.
He is a great choice for you if you want a more unique route, but it will take a bit of work to get Krobus to be your roommate. Below is a complete guide to making Krobus your roommate.
Krobus Facts
Krobus does not go to the doctor, go to festivals, or even go to the market in winter. He doesn’t have a schedule like other candidates and can always be found in the exact same place in the sewers, where he runs a small shop. He will be standing in the same spot regardless of what’s going on that day, the weather, or the time.
- Tip: His birthday is Winter 1 and you’ll gain bonus friendship points when you give him a gift on this day.
To gain access to Krobus, you will need to obtain the Rusty Key from the museum. This will take quite a bit of time, as you’ll need to donate 60 items to the museum to get the reward. The fastest way to do this is by donating the first of each new stone you find and constantly processing geodes. Digging up worm spots for artifacts can also help to speed up this process.
- Tip: Krobus can be taken to the movies like other characters in the game. The only exception is on Friday as it is a day of religious observance for him.
There are no other roommates in Stardew Valley, making Krobus the perfect option if you just want a few of the marriage perks without all the commitment.

Krobus Roommate Requirments
To move in with Krobus, you will need to get a Void Ghost Pendant which is dropped by monsters in Skull Cavern or for sale at the Desert Trader for 200 Void Essence. Your best bet is to use the Desert Trader to get the pendant quickly. The Void Ghost Pendant will be available for purchase after you have maxed out Krobus’s friendship level.
- Tip: Void Essence can be obtained from Brutes, Shaman, Skulls, Spiders, and Serpents
Presenting a Void Ghost Pendant to Krobus will have Krobus move in with you, and he will add his own room to your Farmhouse. It will take Krobus three days to move into your home after accepting the pendant.
After The Move In
He can change your flooring and wallpaper, give you gifts, and his “divorce” price is 0g. It’s also worth noting that you can’t have or adopt children with Krobus. He will only hug you (spouses will kiss you), he doesn’t sleep in your bed, and he won’t do chores. He is sensitive to sunlight and won’t go outside as much as a normal spouse.
- Tip: You can give Krobus a hug to recover stamina once a day.
He will not go back to his shop after moving in with you, but it will still be open. To use the shop, simply go to the same spot where Krobus once stood. In his place will be a treasure chest that will allow you to purchase all the same goods.
Krobus does have a 14 heart event that can be triggered by visiting the beach on a clear day between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m.. This is a non-romantic event, but it does show Krobus enjoying his new life outside of the sewers.
