Stone is one of the most important resources in Stardew Valley. It is used to craft a whole bunch of recipes. This includes not only utensils but also decorative items as well as being needed to build other farm buildings.
For example, most farm buildings require over 100 Stone and each staircase is 99 Stone. This means that if you want to build stone paths or stone fences the number will just keep increasing. Plus, one of the Community Center bundles also requires a considerable amount of Stone. So, players are often in need of Stone throughout the majority of their playthroughs.
Although you can purchase it from Robin, it is quite expensive. During the first year, she will sell Stone for 20 gold then at the start of year two, she will increase the price to 100 gold per Stone. So, even if you’re swimming in cash it’s difficult to justify paying such an elevated price for Stone. That’s why we’re here to help with this Stone farming guide.
Upgrade Your Pickaxe To Mine More Types Of Stone
The first thing you’ll want to do when farming stone is to upgrade your pickaxe. You will be encountering a lot of different stones and having a strong pickaxe is especially useful when you find boulders.
You can only destroy boulders once you’ve upgraded your axe to Steel.
Make Some Bombs To Speed Up Stone Mining
Bombs are another item that you’ll definitely need for this. Especially considering how much easier they make farming stone.
There are three types of bombs in Stardew Valley. Each type of bomb has a different radius.
- The Cherry Bomb which you can craft with four Copper Ore and one Coal has a radius of three. The Regular Bomb costs four Iron Ore and one Coal to make and it has a radius of five. The Mega Bomb requires four Gold Ore, one Solar Essence, and one Void Essence and it has an oddly-shaped explosion with a radius of six to eight tiles.
Bombs will immediately break any rocks within their radius and turn them into Stone immediately. Then, you simply have to walk through and collect the Stone nearby.
Visit The Mines And The Quarry
One method that players have figured to be quite effective when stone farming is to go through the first ten levels of the mines and only break boulders, ignoring the rocks. This way you don’t have to spend many bombs and you get ten Stone from each boulder.
But, since using the pickaxe can take quite a long time, many prefer to resort to bombs. Placing bombs in a strategic place in the mines can get you a considerable amount of stone in just a few seconds.
The Quarry for example is a great location to place down a bomb. Rocks spawn there every day and they spawn very close together. The only downside is that usually also quite a few nodes spawn there such as gem nodes and ore nodes and if you’re only looking for Stone it’ll reduce the amount you collect that day but it’s still worth visiting.
