According to Nintendo’s recent financial presentation, indie farming darling Stardew Valley is rapidly approaching 1 million copies sold in just about 6 months.
Stardew Valley has held a place in the Nintendo Switch’s online shop’s “best sellers” list ever since it released in October of 2017. In fact, it was the most downloaded game for the Nintendo Switch throughout all of 2017. Recently, Nintendo let us know just what that means for a title: Stardew Valley has sold nearly a million copies on Switch - more than a quarter of the nearly 4 million sales the title has made since its release in 2016.
It’s currently unknown how well Stardew has done on other the other major consoles, Xbox One X and PlayStation 4. The Switch seems to be the perfect home for it - it’s hard to imagine a player having the choice to get it on Switch not going that with that option.
In fact, it’s entirely possible some players bought it more than once. How many people owned it on Steam and bought it again on the Switch? Surely the Nintendo console’s portability was strong incentive for people to just buy it again.
Stardew Valley’s cooperative multiplayer mode is tantalizingly close, and might propel the game even further up the charts.
A huge success for Chucklefish, who are already planning on bringing more games of their to Nintendo’s home console, but may be inspired to bring even more. The most exciting of these is Wargroove, which looks to be for Advance Wars fans what Stardew Valley is for Harvest Moon fans.
I can’t wait to play that game. It comes out in the second half of this year, but no firm date yet. Like with everything else, we need to wait for E3 before we have concrete details.
What about you? Do you think the Switch is the best system to own Stardew Valley on? Have you bought it already, or are you planning to?
