Romance is a fun and frustrating part of the Story of Seasons Series. Not only can winning the hand of your favorite character be hard, but the games don’t make raising the heart level of townsfolk a quick process. Even with easy mode engaged, you will likely farm through a few seasons before reaching red heart level.
To get married, you will need to complete a variety of tasks, collect tons of gifts, and learn how to trigger heart scenes for the man or woman of your dreams. Below are ten tips to mastering the art of romance.
10 Disregard The Notes
When you go to check the stats of the villagers, players will notice that they all have notes. Important to note, notes and heart levels aren’t the same thing. Players can engage with all the notes without ever triggering a heart event or even getting close to dating level. Many newcomers to the series have already been confused by these two affection meters, leading to some hilarious realizations.
9 Schedules Change
Every character has a schedule that they go by each day. These schedules may change with the seasons, and almost every character will have a day or two off a week where they divert from their normal path. Rain also affects how the characters schedule out their day, and on festival days, everyone but Brandon, Jennifer, & Gotts will disappear from the town. This means that you can’t talk to them or give them gifts on this day.
8 Rivals Exist
If you tend to play for several in-game years without getting married, then be cautious. Around year five, marriage candidates will start to marry each other, preventing you from dating them.
While this isn’t a problem for most people, some players will panic after seeing the first rival event. Just make sure to make a decision within the first few years.
7 Everyone Has An Easy Gift
Every character has an easy gift, like eggs with Popuri and honey with Brandon. Be sure to stock on forgeable items to make gift-giving easier. This is especially important because favorite gifts for characters like Gray won’t be accessible until the winter mine opens up. Make a note of favorite gifts, and in the first few seasons, focus on forging items they like or love.
6 Heart Events Are Tricky
Heart events are some of the most frustrating parts of the game. Many heart events will have special conditions that have to be met before they trigger. For one of Gray’s events, you will need to walk into the shop he works at with a sickle in your inventory. On top of triggering them, you can lose friendship points for selecting the wrong option. Be sure to always have a backup save in case you choose the wrong dialogue.
5 Some Events Are Timed
Not only do you need to worry about special conditions, but time will hold you back from getting close to your partner. Kai only appears in the summer and is incredibly hard to romance in just the first year. Cliff has to wait for the fall in order to get a job at the vineyard. Don’t stress if you haven’t seen an event, just keep playing, and one should pop-up naturally.
4 There Are Secret Spouses
Not only are there multiple character to marry in town, there are two secret spouses hidden in the game. These are the Kappa and the Harvest Goddess, which are both incredibly hard to marry.
You will need to have a checklist to ensure you complete all the prerequisites for the relationship. Even then, it will take years of in-game time before finally getting married.
3 Upgrading Your House
You won’t be able to say “I do” until you have a big enough house. There are two house upgrades, and you need to complete both to unlock marriage. The second upgrade costs only 10,000 gold, but the amount of supplies you will need to collect is massive. To make the upgrade, you will need 600 lumber and 250 stone.
2 Buying The Big Bed
Not only do you need to pay for the house upgrade, you will then need to buy the big bed. The big bed won’t unlock until after you have done the final upgrade. Once the upgrade is complete, you will receive a letter from Gotts in the bed, telling you that it is up for purchase. The big bed will cost another 10,000 gold.
1 Two Relationship Items
Instead of just worrying about a blue feather, you will also have to unlock the preserved flower. Once unlocked, you can buy as many as you like and date everyone in town. Once you have unlocked the red heart level with a character, the blue feather will also be sold at the general store. The blue feather can only be given to one character and will lock you into marriage.
