In Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town there are two mines to explore and many different types of ore to find including gold, silver, mithril, and adamantine. You’ll need these ores and more as you progress through the game. Gold is especially useful as it helps you befriend Huang, who you can then sell items to for a huge profit.
Since both mines have an enormous 255 floors, finding the most valuable ore and gems is no easy task. We take a look at what you need to know about mine exploration and how to quickly get to the levels you need.
How Mines Work
Going into the mine you’ll need a hammer to break the rocks and a hoe to dig the floor. You could also take a stack of food, but you may prefer to save your bag space for ore.
The Spring Mine is available for mining all year round but the Lake Mine is only accessible during the Winter. Both mines work in exactly the same way, with each level containing a variety of rocks and a ladder for access both up and down.
The save and load trick is the best way to navigate floors quickly. Every time you enter a new floor simply save your game. Once this is done then dig around to locate the ladder to the next floor.
The ladder’s location will be random but does follow certain rules. It will never spawn in the 8 blocks immediately surrounding the ladder you came down, and it will never spawn on any of the blocks directly next to the wall. It’s also more likely to spawn close to the spot you entered and on a spot without a rock on it. However, these final two rules are not guaranteed and ladders can be both far away and under rocks. We recommend checking close uncovered spots first, followed by under close rocks before venturing further away.
Once you’ve found the ladder, remember its location and reload the save from when you first entered that level. You can now go straight to the ladder, meaning a quicker descent with less wasted stamina. Repeat this process until you hit the desired level. You may also find a hole that you can fall down to travel up to 5 levels. However, this comes with a severe stamina penalty so isn’t recommended.
Time does pass in the mine but in a different way. Every floor you go down uses 1 minute of game time and time doesn’t pass while you are digging and hammering.
The Spring Mine’s Rewards
The rewards you chase will depend on your needs. Likely the first items you’ll want are the ores to upgrade tools. To upgrade a tool you need to use it enough to level it up then present it to the blacksmith along with a specific ore and some gold. The process begins with copper, which can be found on any floor, followed by silver which is a rarer drop also from any floor. Gold is available from level 6 and lower and Mithril from floor 9.
Floors 10 and below also yield Orichalcum and Adamantite. Orichalcum is used by Saibara to make jewelry at the cost of 1000G while Adamantite is used to produce Makers, machines that will transform your raw farming materials like milk and eggs to more valuable products like cheese and mayonnaise.
If you just want to sell the materials copper is worth 15G, Silver 20G, Gold 25G, and Mithril 40G. Both Orichalcum and Adamantite are worth 50G. The lower levels contain more valuable items, including Mythic Stone, which is worth 20,000G, but these are tied to specific tasks and tools that are inaccessible during the early game.
As with the ladders, ore locations don’t vary once a level has been spawned so the save and load trick can also be used to locate specific types of ore.
The Lake Mine’s Rewards
The Lake Mine is only accessible during winter when the lake freezes over but it contains far more valuable ores and gems. It mostly comprises different types of gems that can be made into jewelry or sold.
The majority of gems are available on all floors except 50, 100, 150, and 200. Of these, the least valuable is Turquoise at 50G, followed by Amethyst, and Aquamarine at 60G. Agate, Jade, Fluorite, Peridot, and Topaz are all worth between 62G and 70G, while Ruby, Sapphire, and Garnet are worth 75G.
Rarer gems are scattered around on specific floors. Those ending with an 8 may contain Moon Stone, which is worth 55G, and those ending with a 9 can yield Sand Rose which is with 60G.
The most expensive and rarest stones are Emeralds, worth 80G, and found on floors ending with a 5 as well as floors 40, 60, 80, 120, 140, 160, 180, as well as 201 and above. Diamonds are similar in rarity and worth 100G. You can find these on floors 10, 20, 30, 70, 90, 110, 130, 170, 190, and 201 and above.
The most expensive gems are Pink Diamonds and Alexandrite, both of which are worth 10,000G each. Pink Diamonds can be found on floors 30, 70, 90, 110, 130, 170, 190, 210, 220, 230, 240, and finally 250 and above. Alexandrite is found at a rate of 1 per floor on floors 0, 40, 60, 80, 120, 140, 160, 180, and 255.
The Lake Mine also contains cursed tools, which are needed to mine Mythic Stone once blessed. The Cursed Fishing Rod is on floor 29, Hoe on floor 39, Axe on floor 49, Hammer on floor 59, watering can on floor 69 and sickle on floor 79. Finally, Kappa statues and jewels are also found in this mine, which can be collected and exchanged for a gem that helps with stamina and fatigue.
Mining Strategy
For regular mining, you’ll want to head to level 10 or lower in the Spring Mine in order to mine the more valuable resources. Use the save and load trick to harvest those items worth the most.
When the Lake Mine is open you’ll want to utilize this as often as possible due to the value of items inside. Choose which ore you wish to chase each trip and use the save and load trick to locate the correct rocks for maximum profit.
