Once you’ve played a few days of Story of Seasons: Friends Of Mineral Town, you’ll likely notice a strange gift in your mailbox, Van’s Favorite. This bottle of what is presumably traveling vendor Van’s preferred tipple may seem like an obvious gift for the pet salesman but there’s actually a better way to profit from the item in the early game. Here’s how to get your hands on these valuable bottles and how to trade them in order to rake in the gold.
Acquiring Van’s Favorite
The first time you get Van’s favorite in the mail it will likely take you by surprise. However, there is actually a specific set of circumstances that trigger its delivery and by learning to manipulate them you can get a gift more frequently.
You’ll receive your package once you’ve performed 10 specific in-game actions. These include upgrading a tool at the Forge, upgrading your home at the Workshop, and selling your animals. While these actions are restricted and also expensive, there is another action that is much easier to achieve.
The gift counter will also be triggered when you open the general store item and make a purchase. Testing shows that rather than buying 10 items, the best way to manipulate the figure is by buying one item, closing the menu, and then repeating the process nine more times. So buying flour for the sprites, seeds for the farm, and all your cooking ingredients separately can yield big rewards.
However, the store is closed on Tuesdays and Sundays so these days it will be more difficult to hit the counter. If you want to maximize your profits, save your animals and upgrades for these days.
Making A Profit From Van’s Favorite
There are two ways to make a profit from Van’s Favorite and both require you to spend time befriending Huang, who is down by the beach.
At the start of the game, Huang will only sell to you. However, by being a frequent customer and giving him gifts of gold ore, he’ll eventually give you the opportunity to sell to him as well. Once this ability is unlocked you can begin to cash in.
Slow and steady profits can be made by selling Van’s Favorite to Huang each time you receive one. He will offer you up to 57,000G per bottle, which goes a long way in the early game.
Once you’ve acquired over 1,000,000G you can take the bottle to Van himself and gifting it to him will show a secret item for purchase. Upon receiving it Van will offer players the chance to buy a remote control for a whopping 10,000,000G. While it will take a while to stockpile this much gold, once you have managed it you can sell the remote to Huang for a massive payday, as he will give you an enormous 50,000,000G for it.
