If you just started playing the game Story of Seasons Friends of Mineral Town, then you have probably heard of the mysterious Kai from the other villagers. Kai is a character that only appears during a single season in-game, making romancing him even hard. Many players will spend multiple years trying to win Kai over, which can be a bit stressful since most of the other normal marriage candidates are much easier to court. If you want to date Kai, but don’t want to throw away years upon years, then follow the suggestions in this guide below to quickly make him your husband and keep him from marrying your rival.
Find Him in Summer
Kai will only appear in town in summer and will leave on the first day of fall. This gives you an incredibly limited amount of time to court him compared to the other townspeople. You have to have presents ready to go.
To make matters even worse, you also have to keep in mind that the plethora of summer festivals will slow your courtship down.
Get The Fishing Rod
One of the most important things you can do before Kai arrives is to find yourself a fishing rod. The fishing rod can be obtained by visiting Zack in his oceanside home. Once there, he will give you a free rod.
Spend some time catching large fish to have some gifts for Kai. This is a great way to still rack up points year one when you don’t have any pineapples grown.
Be Prepared for Multiple Year Courting
Even if you were able to have his favorite gift ready on the first of summer. You still wouldn’t raise enough points to marry him. At the very least, it will take you two in-game years to court Kai.
This is a great time to prepare your house for marriage and save up money. Some players may even reach year three before they can marry him.
Learn His Birthday
Kai’s birthday is one of your few chances to really raise his friendship points. His birthday is own summer 22 unless your birthday is the same day, if your birthday is on the 22 then his will be on the 17.
Try to give him a pineapple on this day for a large point boost.
Grow Pineapples
Kai’s love actually isn’t fish, but Pineapples. Pineapples, of course, can only be grown in the summer, so you likely won’t have them from the start in your very first year. Make sure to have them planted ASAP.
Pineapples will net you 800 points per day given. You should grow enough pineapples for year two to ensure you start off the summer season strong.
Buy From His Diner
Buying from Kai’s dinner is another way to help raise his points. For every five dishes, you buy you will get 2,500 points, way more than giving him a pineapple will net you. This will last up until you buy 25 items.
Keep in mind that water does not count towards this total. This can net you a valuable 12,500 in total.
Learn The Schedule
Kai has a strange schedule since he only likes to open his shop for a few hours at a time. Kai can be found at his shop starting at 11 am and will stand on the beach from 1 am until 5 pm when he opens the shop for dinner.
On rainy days he will hide in the inn, and on Sundays, he will stay indoors as well. Kai is a relatively easy villager to find as he doesn’t really have friends that he will visit in between work.
Avoid Surprising Dislikes
Unlike many of the other villagers, Kai has some surprising dislikes. Avoid giving him any gems, ores, or fleece. While these usually do well with other villagers, it will lose you points. Two of his hates other than trash are Margherita pizza and colored grass.
He also tends to hate noodle dishes like ramen, oden, and curry udon.
See All Heart Events
You will need to see all of Kai’s heart events, but three of them have special conditions. For the purple heart event, you will need to have less than 50% stamina when you visit him. For the yellow heart event, you will need to have a chicken on your farm.
For the orange heart event, you will need to avoid talking to Jeff or Sasha until the event triggers.
Remember Festivals Won’t Work
Kai doesn’t really go to festivals, and he won’t return for any couples festivals during the year. This means that you won’t get the point bump from accepting his invite like you can from most other marriage candidates.
This can be a bit frustrating as he will only take you out after you have married him when you don’t need a point bonus.
