Getting to the end of Stranded Deep’s shark-infested storyline and escaping in a salvaged plane requires quite the herculean effort. Doing so requires repairing this ancient aircraft with three specific parts and each of those is held by one of the game’s massive super predator bosses.

The creature in question for this particular piece is Lusca The Great. This massive monster is a Giant Squid that hangs out beneath the waves wrapped around a floating buoy. Picking a fight with him might be the last thing you do if you go in unprepared, so if you plan on taking down this overgrown octopus, then here are a couple of tips to keep in mind.

10 He Has The Most Health Of All The Bosses

Most of the sharks that spawn in Stranded Deep aren’t so tough and can usually be taken down with a well-aimed spear or two before being dragged ashore and roasted on your campfire. The bosses however are incredibly tanky and their health bars are quite intimidating.

Lusca The Great for example, has the largest amount of health in the entire game. This overpowered Octopus sports a whopping 1000 points of health, so get ready for a long fight as you slowly chip away at it. Also, make sure to bring something other than a basic spear as you will need to put a lot of damage down as a couple of hits from him can easily kill you.

9 His Spawning Location Is Random

Like the other bosses in Stranded Deep, Lusca The Great’s spawning location is randomized. So you will have to do some exploring if you’re going to find him, although be careful you don’t run into any other of the game’s massive monsters.

But finding this submerged squid isn’t a completely impossible task as there is a landmark to keep an eye out for. Lusca can be found wrapped around the chain of a large floating buoy, so be on the watch for that on the open waves if you plan on taking him down.

8 No Raft Is Safe

Unlike the Abaia who will just circle the player’s raft repeatedly allowing you to comfortably take pot shots from relative safety, Lusca can rip you right off your floating sanctuary with ease.

It manages this by using one of its massive tentacles, which it uses to swat unsuspecting players off their safe perches and into the ocean where they’re in range of its sharp-beaked mouth. This attack can be avoided though by quickly hopping off and then back on the raft whenever Lusca’s tentacles rise out of the ocean and swing towards you.

7 Bring Plenty Of Ammo

As mentioned previously, Lusca’s health bar is ridiculously large when compared to the other bosses that are much larger than it.

Still, if you want to wipe that bar clean you’re going to need a lot of ammunition filling up your inventory space. The cheapest option is to stock up on Speargun Arrows as these are the least taxing to make as they require just one stick and one lashing in their crafting recipe. Whilst refined spears (the strongest weapon in the game) are more expensive and take longer to make since they require Leather, Stone Tools and another Spear.

6 He’s Not Aggressive At First

One of the best features of the Lusca The Great fight is that he doesn’t start off aggressive. Unlike Abaia and The Megalodon which will turn hostile once you get within range this considerate Cephalopod is content to hang out underwater until you’re ready.

Ideally, you should take advantage of this to get your raft in the perfect location and make sure you have all the ammo and weapons you need at a moment’s notice. Then once you’re ready to start just dive underwater and attack him to begin.

5 His Attacks Are Simple

Although seeing this Giant Squid circling you can be quite nightmarish and intimidating as you would expect all sorts of unique and devastating attacks to come. Thankfully, there’s no horrible bleeding or poison debuffs from Lusca’s bites and like the other two boss fights in Stranded Deep this one is pretty basic and easy to figure out.

The two attacks Lusca will do is to charge the buoy at the surface and attack with his beak, or swing his tentacles around to try and knock you into the water for an easy bite with his beak. They’re easy to see coming, so just avoid them when they do and keep chipping away at his massive health bar.

4 There Is A Cheat Option

If you’re having a bit of a survival crafting nightmare in Stranded Deep or just don’t feel like fighting the boss there is a quick cheat option that lets you beat him without taking too much of a risk.

If you pull up in a raft that’s 3x3 or use the inflatable one you start with and wedge it onto the buoy then for some reason the boss’s AI struggles to find you. This then allows you to take cheap shots at Lusca without him being able to hit you.

3 Keep Your Back To The Buoy

If you’re feeling brave enough to take on Lusca underneath the water then try to keep the buoy he hides under at your back. Hanging out near it will cause him to just circle around and around without ever attacking you.

Although it’s unknown why it does this, possibly another issue in the pathing, it allows you to get some free hits in on the boss without taking too much damage. So try to take advantage of this if you’re having a hard time taking him down.

2 Bring A Bed

Another odd bug that can help you in the fight is being able to make a checkpoint above the boss if you bring along a bed.

Placing one down on a big enough raft when it’s either wedged against or slightly on top of the buoy for some reason counts as dry land in the game. This can then be exploited by allowing you to create a pseudo-savepoint directly above the boss, allowing you to respawn and jump right back into the fight once again.

1 Use The Right Weapon

Bringing the right gear to this boss fight can make it a much simpler and shorter affair. For example, If you’re looking to do a lot of damage quickly from range on top of the buoy then the Speargun is your better choice of weapon in this fight.

Or if you want big damage then a Refined Spear is the better option as it does twice the damage amount of the Speargun and has a relatively quick stabbing animation. So find the weapon set that works for you before you sail out to settle things with the Squid in this exciting survival crafting game by Studio Beam Team Games.
