If you close your eyes and try to imagine what kind of things you expect to see on a tropical island, you’ll probably end up visualizing water, fishes, sand, crabs, and possibly a shark or two. But wait! Don’t forget about flora, more specifically, trees.

In Stranded Deep, you’ll find three main tree species: Palm Trees, Ficus Trees and Pine Trees. Most of them will give you resources that’ll make your survival experience a lot easier. So if you’re starting out or just want to know everything you can get from trees, here’s a guide to every tree in the game and what to do with them.

Palm Trees

This is the most common type of tree you’ll see in any tropical environment, either fictional or real. In Stranded Deep, Palm Trees are small-sized and will provide you with very useful items like:

  • Coconuts: an edible resource you’ll find either laying around or at the top of Palm Trees. Coconuts are the easiest source of food and water for newbies in this game. All you have to do to use them is hit the coconut a few times to turn it into a drinkable coconut, and if you keep hitting it, the item will split in half into coconut halves, which you can eat. To collect coconuts, you can climb the tree to grab them, cut down the tree, shoot arrows, and throw spears to make the fruit fall. Wood Logs: You can use this resource in two ways, either by putting wood logs in the plank station to make plank scrap or cutting it down to obtain x4 wood sticks. Palm Fronds: you’ll get these by cutting down the palm you see at the top of Palms Trees. Once you’ve gathered a few palm fronds, you can craft things like a palm frond pile, a shelter, or a water still. You can also use these fronds as fuel for campfires.

Cutting down Palm Trees requires you to use a crude axe, a refined axe, a refined knife, a stone tool, a refined pick, or a machete. However, crude and refined axes are the best ones for the job. You’ll get 1 to 4 logs per tree and 1 palm top.

Keep in mind that once you’ve cut down a palm tree, it won’t respawn, meaning that all the items you get from these trees are finite. You can run out of them pretty quickly if you don’t manage your resources.

Ficus Trees

You’ll find these trees on the small islands in the game, all they’ll give you are 2 to 4 wood sticks which you can later use to craft items, like weapons, or structures, like parts of the rafts. So you see, wood sticks are very useful in this game. Alternatively, you can use wood sticks as fuel for your campfire.

  • Just like it happens with palm trees, ficus trees won’t regrow once cut down.

Ficus trees can be cut down using various weapons and tools like crude axes, refined knives, stone tools, machetes, etc. However, it’s way more efficient to use crude and refined axes for this job. Still, keep in mind that the amount of time and hits it’ll take you to cut down the tree will depend on the tool you use and the harvesting level you have.

Pine Tree

Pine trees are another one of the tree species you’ll find in this game. However, unlike the other ones, you won’t be able to interact with these trees.  They can’t be chopped down and won’t give you any resources whatsoever.

Trying to is an honest mistake many beginners make. You’ll be able to spot these types of trees on large islands.
