Becoming a popular video game streamer is not easy. After the massive rise of Twitch, YouTube, and other content creating platforms, just about everyone would like to be the next Ninja or Shroud. To stand out one needs to be amazing at gaming, be extremely talented as an entertainer, do something unique — or maybe even all of the above. One streamer thought of a fun way to mow down enemies in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War recently, and it has gotten the attention of the internet.
Twitch streamer TheStevieP recently went live to play Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies, but instead of using a traditional controller, he used a Rock Band guitar. The result is both intuitive and comical.
In a clip that is now circulating the internet, TheStevieP is seen playing Black Ops Cold War Zombies in Solo, running from a pack of brain eaters. He turns and shoots the zombie herd with a shotgun in-hand in-game, but in his hand in the real world is a plastic Rock Band guitar. He also reads off a couple of comments in his feed from fans about what buttons he uses for various movements. Interestingly enough, along with it being difficult mechanically to simply move around and shoot, he doesn’t even have a button for reloading or grenades.

While the Rock Band guitar zombie kills are interesting in Black Ops Cold War, it probably isn’t quite as impressive as one streamer getting kills with drums in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The difference with the drums kill is not just that movement and shots are based on the tapping of a drum, over plastic buttons on a fake guitar, but it was also done in multiplayer against human opponents.
The popularity of streamers is continuing to rise. The most renowned content creators have been able to take part in reality TV/game shows, have in-game skins, and more. People are thinking outside of the box to either find a name for themselves or stay relevant, like Dr. Disrespect hosting his own game awards. Using random inanimate objects as controllers has become a go-to move for streamers it seems.
There are a lot of ways to find success in Zombies in Black Ops Cold War, but using a Rock Band guitar probably isn’t one of them. It will be interesting to see what comes next. From a content perspective, it would be intriguing to see who could post the highest score using a Bop-It.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
