All in all, Streets of Rage 4 has widely been considered a glorious return for the classic beat-em-up franchise, but many have agreed that there’s still room for improvement. The good news is that much of that improvement is now available, as publisher and co-developer Dotemu has released a massive balancing patch for the game.

After announcing last week that Streets of Rage 4 would be getting a balance update, Dotemu, alongside fellow co-developers Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games, have finally released the new patch, which boasts dozens of enhancements, bug fixes, and balance changes across the entire game, all of which were tested out by the SOR4 community. These range from changes to individual characters like Axel and Cherry to general gameplay improvements like making special and star moves capable of interrupting any hitstun state on the ground.

The full patch notes can be found on Dotemu’s website, but the publisher sums up Streets of Rage 4’s newest changes as so:

  • Online improvements: better fluidity and stability, less latency. New online stats display options available on the HUD section. Balancing improvements for all main characters. Major gameplay improvements for all stages. Various bug fixes. Fixed rare random crashes.

Aside from the balance patch, Dotemu also took the opportunity to note that the game has surpassed 1.5 million downloads, while reminding fans that Streets of Rage 4 is getting DLC. “We couldn’t be happier with the reception of Streets of Rage 4. We thank the fans who have supported the game from day one - a lot of the updates in the patch enhance the replay value for folks who have been with us from the start,” said executive producer Cyrille Imbert in a press release. “Additional updates are currently in production and we’ll have more to share on that soon.”

Streets of Rage 4 is available for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
