The latest addition to the beloved Streets of Rage franchise will reportedly soon be available to fans worldwide. Streets of Rage 4 is set to be a modernized continuation of the classic retro series, and gamers will allegedly be able to enjoy the brawling beat-em-up while in self-isolation from April 23. It should be noted, however, that the game’s developers ended a recent “Retro Reveal” trailer with a vaguer “Coming Soon.”
Streets of Rage 4 is being developed by LizardCube, who previously worked on the remake of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap. It will be published by Dotemu. The game looks to be loaded with characters from throughout Streets of Rage’s history. The trailer boasts 12 fighters from across the series’ history, including Skate, Zan, and Max. Alongside these announced 12 are further unlockable characters, bolstering the final roster selection to 17 fighters.
And if players would rather listen to the chip-tune infused music of yesteryear, the game easily allows them to switch between a retro playlist and Streets of Rage 4’s more contemporary soundtrack. This old-school option includes music from Sega Genesis’ Streets of Rage and Streets of Rage 2.
The game will feature an online mode that allows two players to work together to work their way through the story. Additionally, Streets of Rage 4 will also support 4-player local co-op, which is a first for the beat-em-up franchise as it attempts to appeal to modern-day audiences.
Streets of Rage 4 will be available for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
