While it’s true that everyone has their vices, a recent study suggests Nintendo gamers do more to keep theirs in check.

If you want to know more about a person, learning what they do in their downtime is a good start. Do they like to garden in their free time? Hit the gym? How about play video games? A recent study by onlineslots.com sought to uncover some trends among gamers, categorizing them by their preferred gaming platform (Nintendo, PS, Xbox, or PC) and conducting a brief survey on their habits, preferences, and where they fell among the “big five” personality traits.

As it turns out, Nintendo fans were standout in the “gaming behaviors” category for being significantly more likely to rein it in than others. Almost 90% of all Nintendo players reported drinking water throughout their gaming sessions. 45% reported drinking tea, and when compared to some of the other beverages listed on the survey - like beer, energy drinks, and hard liquor - it became clear that, at least according to this study, Nintendo fans are likelier to have healthy habits.

Of course, there could be several reasons for this: to start, the infographic only lists the top console for each category - while Nintendo players undoubtedly scored very high at 89% for drinking water, it’s possible that most gamers reported staying hydrated and the other consoles also scored among the high 80%. It could also be suggested, albeit a bit bizarrely, that perhaps Nintendo ranked second in drinking hard liquor and we just can’t see it– but we doubt it. Nintendo fans’ low scores in the less family-friendly categories and high scores in hydration and tea-drinking, taken together, point to a trend of overall habits that wouldn’t make a doctor cringe.

Could it be because Nintendo games often have a younger target audience? Possibly, although the study notes that their age range was 21 -58, hitting an average of 31 year old respondents. That would mean that everyone taking the survey would, at the very least, likely be able to get their hands on alcohol or cigarettes if they wanted.

Finally, Nintendo fans were found much less likely to rage quit their games (28% reported frequent rage quits) compared to PlayStation players (39%) and Xbox players (34%). This and their report of a very average 14 hours a week spent gaming - or 2 hours a day - indicate that Nintendo fans might just have the healthiest relationship with gaming as a hobby out of the bunch.
