Coming from developer Greylock Studio, Severed Steel is a new shooter slated to launch this Summer on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Announced via a frantically-paced trailer and a post on the PlayStation Blog, the game’s designer, Matt Larrabee, claims the experience features “fully destructible voxel environment[s], loads of bullet time, and a unique one-armed protagonist.”

If players needed any more convincing, Severed Steel’s trailer seems to back up Larrabee’s description, showing the game’s protagonist gunning down waves of armored henchman through slow-motion acrobatics and brutal gunplay. From sliding under tables to surprise foes to front flipping over riot-shield-touting enemies to finish them off, it appears players will have a myriad of options regarding how to execute their opponents.

Speaking on what players can expect from the game, Larrabee talks about its protagonist, Steel. According to the designer, the one-armed heroine will spend the game taking the fight to the evil EdenSys: a mega-corporation that abandons Steel after costing her an arm during an incident prior to the events of the game. The thought process behind the character’s physical impairment was to play around with the standard formula of a modern shooter, with Larrabee revealing that players won’t be able to reload their guns on the fly but instead must scout the battlefield for fallen foes’ weapons.

The designer claims he also wanted to make sure the protagonist was as nimble as possible, making her able to wall-run, flip, and dive, while he was focused on including destructible environments from the offset.

Severed Steel will be available this Summer on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
