Subnautica is a rich game, taking the survival genre of gaming and adding a unique underwater twist to it. One thing that makes it so rich is the very world that players will come to navigate. Its map spans two kilometers across, and roughly eight kilometers at its deepest point.

This map is overflowing with varied environments, or biomes, and each is filled to the brim with unique flora, fauna, and terrain. This, of course, means there are plenty of secrets hidden about this world, some of which players may never find — without a little help, that is.

Blood Kelp Sanctuary Cache

Players aren’t the first intelligent lifeforms to set foot on Planet 4546b. Before even the earliest human castaways on the planet, there were the Precursors, now called Architects. These aliens left an extensive impact on the planet, from the disease currently decimating its wildlife to their remaining architecture. Outside of major plot-driven areas, there are also numerous alien caches around the map. These caches are extremely easy to miss, but they hold valuable resources, both for the story and for survival.

One of these caches is the Blood Kelp Sanctuary. It is located in the Northern Blood Kelp Zone, at coordinates -554, -534, 1518. It is roughly 560m down, meaning players will need an upgraded Seamoth to reach it — as well as a Purple Tablet to unlock the forcefield. It holds four Ion Cubes and data hubs which provide more info on the Architects.

Deep Sparse Reef Sanctuary Cache

The Sparse Reef is situated between the Grand Reef and Grassy Plateaus. This specific Architect Cache, however, is in the northernmost area of the biome, close to the Sea Treader’s path and a major wreck. Its specific coordinates are -929, -287, -760.

Its close proximity to the Sea Treaders means it will be deep underwater, so players will still need an upgraded Seamoth and another Purple Tablet to find it. Within it are six Ion Cubes and another Architect data hub.

Dunes Sanctuary Cache

The last Sanctuary Cache is located within the Dunes biome, the second biggest area in-game — but it’s also one of the scariest. After all, it is home to multiple Reaper Leviathans, making traversing the region an arduous task. However, this specific sanctuary is also deep underwater, meaning players will need a vehicle to safely reach it.

It’s located in an ancient impact crater in the biome, behind the remaining meteor. Its specific coordinates are -1187, -378, 1130. Like the other caches, it holds four Ion Cubes, alongside an Architect databank.

Lifepod 7

The location of most Lifepods will be given to players upon using a fully functioning radio. However, there are three exceptions to this: Lifepod 4, Lifepod 6, and Lifepod 7. Instead of giving direct coordinates, players are only given a vague description and image of the biome they’ve wrecked in.

The former two pods are easier to find, being located in the shallower parts of the Grassy Plateaus and Crash Zone. Lifepod 7, however, is located within the Crag Field, far deeper than the others. Located south of the Aurora, this biome’s rocky, dark ambiance makes spotting the lifepod a near-impossible task. Its specific coordinates are -55, -179, -1039, and once found, it offers PDAs (as usual) alongside scannable base-building furniture.

Crash Zone Mesas

The Crash Zone, as its name suggests, is marked primarily by the remaining wreckage of the Aurora. Most of the biome consists of dusty, sandy waters that are teeming with scannable vehicle scraps, hostile faunas, and several Reaper Leviathans. It’s extremely tempting to travel no further than the Aurora.

But should players find the courage to travel beyond the Aurora and to the eastern part of the biome, they have a chance of finding the Crash Zone Mesas. There are six of them total, located at coordinates 875 -320 -105, 815 -270 -117, 640 -240 -1130, 20 -185 -1030, 320 -180 -1115, and 30 -150 -1000, respectively. These little plateaus are micro-biomes, rich with more passive fauna and the typical flora of the planet alongside a few resource outcrops. Though not immune from a Reaper Attack, finding and conquering this area is a worthy challenge.

Bone Fields Caves

The Bones Fields are a sub-area that makes up the cavernous Lost River biome. Located at coordinates -983, -736, 36, this sub-region is home to a sprawling bone field that’s brimming with fossilized remains of Leviathans past.

But between navigating the various fauna of the Bone Fields, resource hunting, or trying to find entry to deeper biomes, players might end up missing the caves of this biome. It’s easy to understand why — these caves are located in the ceiling of the Lost River, and when navigating this eerie region, it’s best to hug the floor for safety. But these caves are also a safe place for resource gathering and have some unique flora inside them.

Mushroom Forest Caves

The Mushroom Forests scattered about the world hold a variety of useful resources. From shale outcrops, advanced machine blueprints, and more, these biomes are valuable places for players to explore.

But within these forests are a small sub-region consisting of caves. These cavernous tunnels are located primarily under/inside of the largest mushroom stalks of the forest, near the Bulb Zone biome. While they lack any tech blueprints, they’re still a great resource for shale outcrops and sea creature eggs. For anyone interested in finding these caves, bring a basic Seamoth and head on out to this fungal forest.

Dunes Caves

The Dunes, again, are a vast biome. As such, they have many areas that are easy to miss, whether just from sheer size, or the distracting terror of the biomes hostile fauna and Leviathans. One of these many missed areas is the Dunes Caves.

These caves are located, specifically, in the sinkhole of the biome, located at -1511, -336, 294. These caverns are rich in many useful flora and resource outcrops, alongside some of the game’s elusive Sea Crowns. The most important note to keep in mind is that they’re small enough that they act as a safe space from the terrifying Reaper Leviathans, making them a perfect haven to harvest resources. For any brave explorers, these caverns await.
