A dedicated Super Smash Bros. Ultimate modder Demonslayerx8 has released pictures of the Lingering Will (Terra) from the Kingdom Hearts series being played in the game. It has an incredible amount of detail.
Demonslayerx8 is still working on the model, but when released as a mod it will be an alt skin swap for Ike — a character that has heavy attacks reminiscent of the infamous Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix boss that kicked many fans’ butts back in the day. The Japanese modder will also add unique UI to the character, as well.
Smash Bros. fans have long asked for Kingdom Hearts’ main protagonist, Sora, to be in the mega-crossover fighter, and there was a hashtag online that made an impact on the Twitter community. Katsuhiro Harada, the Game Director and Chief Producer of Tekken and fighting games at Bandai Namco, told people to stop spamming the director of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He tweeted, “I talk with Mr.Sakurai & Bandai Namco’s Smash development team so that your request will NOT be approved as much as possible.” It could be a joke or a troll, but Sora’s likelihood in Smash may be dashed.

However, after the recent release of Minmin in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, there are five remaining character slots in Fighters Pass 2. All these spots are slated to be released by the end of 2021, and the game will then be finalized by that time. Perhaps Sora still has a chance? This mod by Demonslayerx8 proves that the art style of Kingdom Hearts can translate into Smash really well.
The Kingdom Hearts franchise has 5 games on Nintendo platforms, including Chain of Memories, 358/2 Days, Re: coded, Dream Drop Distance, and the upcoming Melody of Memory for this year — three of them feature the main man Sora. And he’d be perfect for the game — there are so many moves at Sora’s disposal, there’s a treasure trove of music by Yoko Shimomura to choose from, and there are some interesting stage inspirations like on the top of Twilight Town’s Clock Tower, or the rooftops of Traverse Town. There could even be an echo fighter for Roxas.
Also, with the Kingdom Hearts series shipping over 32 million copies worldwide, Sora’s inclusion in the Fighters Pass could print money for Nintendo.
