Tekken’s Kazuya joins the battle in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate starting tomorrow as the 10th Challenger from the game’s Fighter Pass Volume 2. It’s also the penultimate character to be added to Smash Bros. Ultimate, according to series director Masahiro Sakurai, who confirmed that there’s just one more DLC addition coming later this year.

This comes from today’s livestream where Sakurai dove deep into Kazuya’s moveset and abilities. Near the end of the presentation, Sakurai confirmed that there’s one more DLC character yet to be added, but after that, it’s all over.

“The next DLC fighter will be the last one,” Sakurai said. “There won’t be any more after that.”

We know that the Challenger Pack 11 will be coming later this year as the presentation card confirmed that all Fighter Pass characters will be added before December 31, 2021. That said, Sakurai tempered expectations for a quick reveal on the final Smash Bros. character.

“It’ll be a while before that announcement, but it’ll be available this year as planned, so please be patient.”

That last spot on Smash Bros is going to be highly coveted. There are plenty of worthy game characters that could take Challenger Pack 11 (with my full support being thrown in for Halo’s Master chief), but no matter who gets the final nod, someone is going to be disappointed.

Well, so long as it’s not another Fire Emblem character. Then I think we’ll all be disappointed.

Although Sakurai closed the door on new DLC characters, he didn’t say anything about new Mii costumes. Along with Kazuya, Smash Bros. is getting four new Mii costumes tomorrow, including Lloyd from Tales of Symphonia, the Dragonborn from Skyrim, classic platformer protagonist Shantae, and Dante of Devil May Cry fame. If Master Chief isn’t a new character, he can at least be a Mii costume.
