Do you ever feel nostalgic for the days of Smash 4? Well, probably not. If you do, though, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s latest online tournament is something you’ll definitely want to get on board with.
Super Smash Bros Wii U/3DS was a super interesting release. As the name(s) would suggest, it launched for both the Wii U and 3DS, with the latter doing an admirable job of keeping pace with its big screen counterpart. In the end, it was probably one of the most feature-packed titles the beloved handheld ever had, with very little being lost in translation. It even had modes that were unique to 3DS, in StreetSmash and Smash Run.
The ambitious dual platform thing aside, Smash 4 was an interesting series instalment for a number of reasons. Controversial mechanics like custom special moves, Amiibo functionality for the first time, the debut of Smash DLC… (hi, Cloud!) what a wild time it was.
Most importantly, of course, Smash 4 added a number of new fighters to the fray. Among other newcomers, we got Villager of Animal Crossing fame, Wii Fit Trainer, Greninja, Lucina, Robin, Little Mac from Punch-Out!!… quite the motley crew of brawlers. Now, if you want to relive a time when Little Mac was actually considered a terrifying force in online Smash, there’s another limited time event tournament coming to Ultimate.
Accoding to Nintendo Life, Following in the wake of the Ace Pilots online tournament (starring Samus Aran, Fox McCloud, Captain Falcon, and so on), the 3DS and Wii U tournament is on its way to the game. As always, it will kick off on Friday (July 24) and last for three days.
Only characters introduced in these 2014 classics will be available, and the same goes for the stages. If there’s a fighter from these games that you feel confident with, why not put your money where your mouth is and dive into this not-so-serious tournament? It’s worth hopping back into the game if you missed out on the Ring Fit Adventure and/or Animal Crossing: New Horizons spirits too, as they’re now available in regular rotation.
