A new teaser trailer for the upcoming CW series, Superman and Lois has been released. The trailer is focused on the Kent family, with the only characters visible being Clark Kent, his wife Lois, and their two sons, Jonathan and Jordan.
This version of Superman, played by actor Tyler Hoechlin, made several appearances on the CW show Supergirl and participated in crossovers with the other DC shows in the same universe. Superman and Lois is set after the latest crossover that Clark and Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) appeared in, “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” and follows the discovery that due to the events of the crisis, the Kents’ infant son is now two teenage boys.
The new teaser trailer hints at this shift. “We all begin as one version of ourselves. But as we grow, life changes us. Every moment, shaping our character, shifting our priorities,” Clark says in the trailer, narrating as the images on screen change from Clark and Lois together, to Clark and Lois with a single baby, to two teenage boys. The narration serves a dual purpose, referring both to people changing as they grow older and have kids, and to the different versions of reality that exist due to “Crisis on Infinite Earths.”
Footage in the trailer is shown through crystals, similar to those in Superman’s Fortress of Solitude. Scenes of Clark, Lois, and their two sons can be glimpsed in the crystals as they shatter and come apart, between shots of Superman in his suit and ropes unravelling.
At the end of the trailer, Superman uses the ropes to pull together the shattered crystals containing his family’s faces, paired with his narration: “What we thought was lost, can be found, and family.” There is a clear message of Clark fighting to hold his family together, even while living his life as Superman.
While the Kents are the only characters shown in the trailer, it has been confirmed that the series will include familiar DC comics characters including Lois’ father, Samuel Lane, and Clark’s friend Lana Lang. Actor David Ramsey will also be making some appearances as his Arrow character, John Diggle. The trailer does not say much about the plot, but it’s also known that Superman and Lois will be set in Smallville. Still unknown is whether Jordan and Jonathan Kent have inherited their father’s powers, although either way, it’s clear that they are a big focal point of the series.
Superman and Lois will premiere on the CW on February 23 2021.
