Strap on your scrubs and get sterile, because Surgeon Simulator 2 is prepping for the OR. Bossa Studios has announced that the sequel to the internet sensation original will be heading to PC via the Epic Games Store on August 27, 2020. While a console version is likely in the works, it will remain on PC for the rest of 2020.

The biggest addition to this sequel is the inclusion of a cooperative mode for up to four wannabe doctors. Along with your fellow quacks, you can tackle the new story mode and attempt to “save” the lives of patients as you navigate some seriously unsafe hospital layouts. Who puts treadmills in a hospital for crying out loud?! Those don’t belong in a medical institution!

If all of that doesn’t tickle your medical bone, Surgeon Simulator 2 will also be packing a  “Creation Mode” level editor. Similar in concept to what Minecraft and Fortnite have, players will be able to assemble the wackiest and wildest hospitals imaginable and share them with their friends online. You can even invite your friends into your level editor and get to brainstorm together.

Announced at PC Gamer’s E3 like stream last month, this unexpected sequel to the 2013 original looked like a massive improvement over its predecessor. For one, the game isn’t entirely a joke. There seems to be some actual thought put into making everything playable. Secondly, cooperative multiplayer is just the thing that could push this over into must-own territory.

The Epic Games Store exclusivity might put some PC purists off, but deals like that tend to only last a year. With the original making its way to basically every platform (even getting exclusive content on Switch), it will only be a matter of time before players of all types will get their surgical gloves bloody with zany goodness.

If you want to partake in the madness early, you can currently pre-order the game from Epic’s storefront for $24.99. Doing so will grant you access to the closed beta that is set to run from August 7 - August 9. You’ll even nab yourself the “Mad Scientist” cosmetic set to adorn your medical professional with.
