The rumors were apparently true. Without telling anyone, Nintendo has launched a surprise Mini Direct that contains around 25 minutes of new announcements. We’ll have a full round-up once we get to watching it, but the very first trailer is for Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. We can quickly tell you that it will be launching on May 29, 2020, and come with an additional epilogue campaign.

News of this direct was rumored by VentureBeat writer Jeff Grub yesterday. Known for having a reliable track record when it comes to such announcements, the main surprise here is that Nintendo had no build-up for this video. Usually, the company is hyping up even the smallest of reveals, but this just appeared out of nowhere.

In the past, Nintendo has given at least one day’s advanced notice for Directs. It could be that due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Nintendo is trying to surprise fans with some pleasant news. It could also be that because of the same pandemic, Nintendo didn’t have time to properly tease anything.

Regardless, the Direct is here and we’ll soon learn what’s in store for the coming months. Here’s hoping we learn some more news about Breath of the Wild 2, or whatever name the next Zelda takes.
