Robert Downey Jr. will be producing Netflix’s adaptation of DC Comics’ Vertigo hero Sweet Tooth, it has been confirmed. Fans of Downey Jr.’s will likely be surprised by this announcement, as the actor played Marvel superhero Iron Man for 12 years.
On Twitter, Downey Jr. confirmed he, his wife Susan, and Amanda Burrell, from their production company Team Downey, will be producing Netflix’s Sweet Tooth series. The series will be live-action and will feature eight, one-hour episodes. The cast will feature former Saturday Night Live cast member Will Forte, Game of Thrones actor Nonso Anozie, and Life in Pieces actor James Brolin will be the show’s narrator.
The original Sweet Tooth comics, created by Jeff Lemire, were published by the DC Comics Vertigo label between 2009 and 2013. It features a part deer, part boy character named Gus who leaves his home in the forest following a post-apocalyptic event. Gus finds other part animal, part humans, as he tries to find out how he came to be.
The show is described as being family-friendly, which suggests that Netflix is trying to create something that could potentially go up against the Disney+ streaming service. Netflix’s other new hits, such as The Witcher series, are gritty and real but Sweet Tooth could potentially be something for all of the family to enjoy.
Sweet Tooth does not have a release date.
