UPDATE 3/21: As predicted, PewDiePie has once again regained the top spot from T-Series, and currently has around a 25,000 subscriber lead. Original story follows.

For months, PewDiePie has worked to keep the top spot on YouTube as the site’s most subscribed-channel from the corporate-owned T-Series, an Indian-based channel that mostly uploads music videos. For the most part, PewDiePie has maintained the lead, though he has briefly lost to T-Series a time or two. But as of March 21, T-Series has once again surpassed PewDiePie, and this time it seems as though its lead will stick.

At the time of this writing, T-Series has 90,649,931 subscribers on YouTube, whereas PewDiePie has 90,457,675 subscribers. There is about a 12,300 subscriber gap between the two channels, and it’s still growing, with T-Series putting more distance between itself and PewDiePie every minute.

While PewDiePie fans may think all hope is lost, it’s possible for his channel to bounce back yet again. After all, it’s currently 1:30am CST, meaning that a huge portion of PewDiePie’s audience is likely asleep, and aren’t available to rally behind him and boost his subscriber count as they’ve done in the past. PewDiePie himself doesn’t appear to be available either, as he has not made mention of the incident on Twitter and hasn’t started any emergency livestreams to boost his subscriber count.

Later in the day, it’s possible that PewDiePie will pull some kind of stunt to put his channel back in the lead, making T-Series’ latest victory short-lived. However, it’s also possible that T-Series will maintain the lead this time, and the subscriber count gap will be too wide for PewDiePie to recover. It’s hard to say at this point, but we will update this article as appropriate if PewDiePie’s channel manages to pull ahead again.

Whether or not PewDiePie hosts any video game livestreams to keep his channel on top, as he’s done in the past with Minecraft, Fortnite, Roblox, and more, remains to be seen. It may be beneficial for PewDiePie to play Apex Legends, as that’s currently one of the top games in the world right now, and one that he has yet to play to promote his channel in the battle against T-Series.
