If you loved Slay the Spire, you’ll probably be very into Deck of Ashes, coming on June 9th.
We’re having a weird renaissance in deckbuilding games all thanks to Slay the Spire. The little indie card-game-that-could has obviously inspired a brand new card game that tosses out the roguelike elements in favor of a more traditional RPG approach, albeit one that still seems to have a ton of branching options on how you complete it.
It’s called Deck of Ashes, and you play as one of four anti-heroes on a redemption quest to save the land from the curse of ashes. Along the way, you’ll fight monsters, find new cards, and build your deck up to be a force of nature.
As mentioned before, there appears to be a lot more of the good ‘ol RPG elements in Deck of Ashes. There are more conversation screens and vendors to speak to, as well as a branching path to reach your goal. Whether or not this changes the story is anyone’s guess, but we’ll find out soon enough.
Deck of Ashes entered into Steam Early Access in April of last year, and it plans to escape to a full release on June 9. Even in Early Access, the game has accrued 80% from user reviews, so you know that Deck of Ashes is doing at least something very right.
