LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule gives fans a behind-the-scenes view of its in-development new title, Dreams, showcasing the game’s creation in action.
LittleBigPlanet, the Sony console exclusive from developer Media Molecule, has a long history of enchanting games and charming platforming fun. Although the creativity-focused series ran out of gas a little with 2014’s LittleBigPlanet 3, the game still impressed, and much was then expected of the developer’s next game. Titled Dreams, members of the gaming community interested in the project can now get a behind-the-scenes look at the creation process.
Although the video does not give much away in terms of content or final product, it’s still very interesting for fans of the developer’s games or those with an eye for game development in action. In the footage, Media Molecule duo Mark Zarb-Adami and Alex Evans gives gamers a sneak peek at how Dreams’ shader programming works in action. To begin with, the video shows off a flat surface, but this is quickly replaced by fluid waves.
The video itself is very much for those after a long, hard, look at how Media Molecule functions. There’s a fairly heavy focus on the technical side of development, but both Evans and Zarb-Adami deliver a fascinating dev diary here. For those who are interested, the full video can be seen below.

As of yet, gamers have very little to go on regarding Dreams. Media Molecule has remained very quiet over exactly what the gaming community can expect from the title, and Sony has remained cryptic about the game’s content as well. Indeed, even though the developer was also fairly aloof over Tearaway, this new project has been an even bigger secret, with the game showcased via mysterious videos after the project was announced to be in development (without a name) several years ago.
This much, however, is clear: Media Molecule is aiming to deliver a whole new level of player creativity with Dreams, beyond that seen with the LittleBigPlanet series. Media Molecule describes Dreams as a “space were you go to play and experience the dreams of Media Molecule and our community.” However, this is not just limited to the world of games, with the developer also apparently opening up the project to art, films, music, and “anything in-between and beyond.”
It certainly sounds exciting, although just how successful the project will turn out to be remains to be seen. After all, Dreams is still very much in development, with no set release date at the moment. Nonetheless, the game could turn out to be something special when it finally sees launch. Let’s hope that it is worth the wait.
Dreams has no set release date, but will launch exclusively for the PS4.
