Bandai Namco’s upcoming mobile RPG Tales of Crestoria will be releasing in the near future, according to a recent letter from the producer Tomomi Tagawa. She also gave the news that the number of pre-registered users for the game jumped over 1 million the other day.
Tagawa said that the Japanese and English versions of the game are in the “final stages” and asks fans to “wait just a while longer” for the game to arrive on iOS and Android devices.
Tales of Crestoria was previously slated for an early June release but was delayed after a beta test in Canada and Indonesia (via Anime News Network). She said in the letter that the development team wanted to make sure the game is as “polished it can be.”
For those who do not know, Tales of Crestoria is a gacha-style turn-based RPG for smartphones, and in this game, you acquire prior characters in the series to join your party. It includes party members like Milla (from Tales of Xillia) and Luke (Tales of the Abyss) to more obscure characters, such as Emil (from Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World) and Leon (Tales of Destiny). Hopefully, the in-game currency system to gameplay ratio is fair.

While the game sounds like a generic mobile RPG at first, there’s much more to it. It has a pretty engaging original story with animated cutscenes, and the attacks from each party member have a AAA quality to them with visual effects on screen. While playing the beta in Canada, there was a realization that this could actually hook players in, as opposed to most free-to-play gacha titles. It almost feels like a proper entry in the series, and the production quality is surprisingly good.
The story revolves around Kanata, who, through a series of unfortunate events, finds him running for his life alongside his best friend, Misella. Kanata is found a criminal after protecting the weak and now fights against the vision orbs, who are keen to erase him from the world.
No release date has been given by Tagawa, Bandai Namco, or the development team yet, but if what she’s saying is true, it could get a late July or August release.
The next console game Tales of Arise was also delayed, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In result, it will not be releasing this year. Bandai Namco said, “We will need more time to achieve the quality and provide the gorgeous experience we envision for our players.” Hopefully, we’ll see more gameplay soon.
