Team USA finally announced its roster for the 2019 Overwatch World Cup, and it’s a solid team of fresh faces and experienced veterans. All 12 players on the roster play in the Overwatch League, and they are hoping to carry that professional experience into the World Cup. Team USA has all the tools needed to advance far into the tournament this year.
Main tank, Muma, and off-tank, Space, make their return on this year’s team, as well as FCTFCTN, coming back for the first time since the 2017 Overwatch World Cup. Los Angeles Valiant’s Space is one of the best D.Va players in the league, and Muma has been a steady cornerstone of the Houston Outlaws since the beginning of the inaugural season. Making his Overwatch World Cup Debut is Super, the main tank for San Francisco Shock. Super is an MVP finalist for the Overwatch League this season, and his play will have a large impact on Team USA.
Super’s teammate, Sinaatra, is the standout DPS player on the roster as he makes his third straight Overwatch World Cup appearance. Like Super, Sinaatra is also a finalist (and probable winner) for league MVP this year, leading the fan polls by a healthy margin. His Zarya play is mainly responsible for that title, but Sinaatra is a DPS specialist that evolved to fit into the 3-3 meta insanely well. Another notable addition is Danteh from the Houston Outlaws making his World Cup debut. He is one of the better Sombra players in the league, and it will be fun seeing how he works with Sinaatra. Hydration is coming back as well to help be a versatile, veteran presence on the team. Corey and KSF are both making their debuts.
Rawkus and Moth both make their return to Team USA and will use their experience playing together to help lead Team USA far into the World Cup. Like Sinaatra, Rawkus is playing in his third straight Overwatch World Cup and should be a strong leader for the United States. Washington Justice’s, Sleepy, is making his World Cup debut.
Team USA dominated their group stage of last year’s Overwatch World Cup going 5-0 and positioning themselves as one of the teams to beat heading into the playoffs. Unfortunately, their run was cut short in the quarterfinals by a strong UK team. Some of the best professionals in the world are on Team USA this year, and with likely OWL MVP Sinaatra leading the pack, they hope to fly the flag high as the 2019 Overwatch World Cup champions.
A champion will be crowned November 2nd.
